"No man or woman under 50 should
bald, for up to that time the roots
are KOOII. ami where there are roots
there can also be hair," saltl a special
ist In the care of the hair.
"Ilats make men's hair come out.
They wear their hats so heavy. The
scalp gets dry, then the circulation Is
gone and the hair falls out.
"To relieve baldness the blood must
be brought to the scalp. This is done
by opening the pores by applying hot
towels at an even temperature until
the head is as red us a tomato. Then
the head should be massaged with the
following preparation:
"Best olive oil, three ounces; almond
oil, one ounce; glycerin, one-half ounce;
rosewater, one ounce.
"Massage thoroughly with this and
then wash the head with a good sham
poo and warm water, but no soap.
Then close the pores by applying cool
towels to the head.
"This treatment. If carefully and con
scientiously followed, will make hair
grow on the most obstinate heads If
the person is not over 50 years old."
"But only men are bald, madam.
Women are never bald, are they?"
"Women? Seldom entirely bald, but
their liair comes out in Spots. Tills
treatment will relieve even spotted

"Men cut their hair too often. Cut

Farmers in central New York are
realizing h good profit in their onion
crop this year, as they are selling at
$1 80 a bushel at retail and a dollar at
wholesale, according to the American
Cultivator Some have grown 500
bushels to the acre and do not esti
mate the expense at over SSO per acre.
Those who had them on upland were
the fortunate ones, as the heavy rains
drowned out nearly one-lialf the crop
011 lowlands. The crop 011 lowlands has
averaged from 200 to 250 bushels an
acre, and the cost of growing them was
Increased to 25 cents a bushel, leaving
a protlt of but about $l5O an acre. A
Syracuse capitalist, has lately bought a
tract of 400 acres and is clearing up
the land, ll'' will build five or six ten
ement houses and lease the land to
onion growers. There is a vast tract of
muck land well adapted to this crop,
as it Is among the most fertile and pro
ductive land in central New York. The
owner of a thirty-two acre farm on the
edge of a swamp says his crop brought
him $5,000 cash last season. He had
seven or eight acres of onions on which
he grew 3,500 bushels, which were
worth $3,500. ID- had two acres of
peas that he sold to the canning fac
tory and then grew a second crop of
canning beets, for which lie received
$1.25. He has s.°>oo to $-lO<> worth of
sugiu beets for the sugar factory be
sides a good crop of sweet corn, hay
and other products.

AN EASY GARDEN.
OB» That Any Plain, Practical Fann
»r May Cultivate With Profit,
A good garden, meaning one that
furnishes a supply of vegetables in
abundant quantity and liberal variety
throughout the growing season, with a
linul harvest home for the winter
stock, is what everybody who lives iiv
the country wants. Such a garden,
grown and cared for in the easiest and
cheapest way, is what every farmer
might have, but not what every farm
er actually attains. The garden of
which I see most Is a very good illus
tration of this kind cf garden, the one
that every plain, practical farmer may
cultivate with profit to his own pocket
mid much satisfaction for all who eat
ut his table.
This cheap and easy garden is favor
ably situated, to begin with. The soil
is good and the ground free from j
stones. It slopes slightly toward the
south and is protected from north
winds by buildings, trees and at a little
distance a low hill. It contains about
three-quarters of an acre and furnishes
two families with a practically unlim
ited profusion of flue fresh vegetables
of the best quality and some fruit.
Laid out entirely in long lines, the
rows far enough apart forgoing
through with a cultivator, horsepower
is relied upon almost exclusively for
the culture of this garden. It has the
same good, thorough attention that
the neighboring cornfield gets and lit
tle more. Clean tillage and frequent
stirring of the soil are a matter of
course, but with no refinements of
the gardening art, nothing done for
show or mere appearance. A sobei;.
steady old farm horse and an equally
steady plowman inarch up and down
the long rows often enough to prevent
any big weeds from exhausting the
fertility of the soil.
After the ground is well manured,
plowed and harrowed in the spring it
is marked off in long lines and culti
vation kept up, with room left for suc
cessive plantings of the more impor
tant garden crops. Last year delicious
green peas were picked for thirty suc
cessive days. Green corn lasted still
longer. From the first radish and the
early spinach and lettuce to the last
tomato and last mess of lima beans
the season easily covers more than
half the year, and during all this time
the garden provides a very Important
share of the food supply, important
to health and comfort and also from
the point of view of dollars and cents.
Cnn as much and as good value be
obtained in any other way?
The garden hi question has two
rows of raspberries and two of straw
berries, productive, though not cared
for in a finished manner, and a row
of peach trees along one side wall
give in favorable years a few bushels
of peaches. This garden does not
claim perfection. It lacks, for instance,
an asparagus lied. Melons have done
fairly well In It, but for some reason
the Hubbard squash has been a fail
ure. The homely cabbage thrives, but
not the more elegant and dainty cauli
flower. Celery we do have up to late
winter and plenty of parsnips left in
the ground for the following early
spring.
This garden is not like u patent med
icine—warranted to please everybody.
Some would not be satisfied without
more. Others content themselves with
much less.
For its planning and general over
sight this garden depends upon a wo
man, concludes Dorothy in Country
Gentleman.

Frogs' legs are sold in Paris daintily
threaded on little willow wands. Peo
ple buy them for the home table in
stead of, as is the practice In this coun
try, eating them exclusively In restau
rants. They make a most palatable
broth for invalids and convalescents,
but ordinarily the legs are prepared by
removing the skin, rolling them In
flour, adding salt, pepper and butter,
with a pinch of parsley, and cooking
them gently in a frying pan or on the
griddle. l>y Parisians It is considered
that the frog is best in the fall of the
year, when it Is fattest and most deli
cate. However, large numbers of the
batrachians are caught in the spring,
when they are said to be more easily
captured.—Saturday Evening Post.
