I, A CANNING FACTORY. | ( Danville, it seems, is likely to have a , new industry in the form of a canning ( factory. Robert S. Harlaiui, of Chirk Summit, the promoter, who circulated ( among our farmers and business men, yesterday, states thai he has met with a great deal of encouragement and con siders the success of the enterprise as- ( sured. His plan is to organize a stick coin- ( pany capitalized at $12,000. a sum suffi cient to build ami ei«ip the factory. The company is to be organized on a co-operative basis, and it is this feature which appeals to the owners of the large river bottom faims, who every year find themselves with an overplus of garden truck on hand, which has the effect of ( glutting the local markets and bearing down prices-of truck to a point which admits of little profit. Under the plan proposed by .Mr. Harland those holding stock in the canning factory will have an opportunity not only of disposing of their produce at a reason able figure, but also of sharing in the profits of the concern, thereby realizing from a double source. The factory will employ one hundred to one hundred and fifty hands and wiil be in operation from sixtoeight months in the year. The site most likely to be selected will be South Danville or River side, most probably the former, owing to its proximity to the railway station. Among the products canned will be corn, tomatoes, &c., besides fruits of all sorts. It is strange that the establishment of a canning factoiy has never been agitat ed here before. No more suitable locali ty is to be found anywhere. The sum of money, too, required is a modssione and can easily be raised. The wealthier farmers, especially those on the oppo site side of the river, are quite enthusi astic over the enterprise and it is not likely that they will permit it to fall through. Major Frank Lewis, whose death oc curred Sunday last, was buried in Mt. Vernon cemetery, yesterday afternoon, with full military honors. The funeral was quite largely attended, the services being held at St. Peter's M. E. church at one o'clock. A fair representation of Goodrich Post, No. 22, G. A. R., accompanied by the Washington Drum Corps, was pres ent at the funeral. The pall bearers, selected from among the members of the Post, were as follows: John Hunt, Sa muel Morrall, Joseph L. Shannon, Will iam H.Treas, Robert Morris and Ellis Best. The presence of the military lent an added interest and impressiveness to the funeral and was a mark of respect most highly appreciated by the family of the dead veteran. On the way to thechurch from the late residence of the deceased the Drum Corps beat a dirge. A tiring squad, chosen from among the members of l2th l2th regiment, N. G. P., under the command of C'jrporal Herbert Dreifuss, participated in the ceremony at the cemetery, firing the customary three volleys over the grave. The sermon was preached by Rev. F. S. Vought, pastor of St. Peter's M. E church. It was a most appropriate and feeling discourse. Alfred Forred Badly Injured. Alfred Forred, a former resident of this place, along with several other work men, was badly injured by a premature tixplosiou of dynamite at Cameron col liery, Sbamokin, Thursday afternoon. Forred received the full force of the ex plosion about the face and breast and was shockingly bruised. His right hand was so badly mangled as to necessitate amputation of three fingers. He is re ceiving treatment at the Miners' Hos pital, at Fountain Springs. Take care of the penries and the pounds will take care of themselves. Large things are but an aggregation of small things If we take care of the small things we are in effect taking care of the large things which the small things combine to make. Take care what you eat, when yon eat. and how you eat, and your stomach will take care of itself. But who takes care of such trivial things? That is why, some day, the majority of people have to take care of the stomach. When that day comes, there is no aid so effec tive in undoing the resnlts of past care lossness as Dr. Pierce's Golden M-dical Discovery. It strengthens the stomach, and restores the organs of digestion and nutrition to a condition of healthy activ ity. FOR JT'DGE <>F ELECTION. It 9 For Washington's Birthday. Interest in Mrs. Stowe 's masterpiece is perennial. "Men may come and men may go"—but, like Tennyson's brook. "Uncle Toai's Cabin" bids fair to"go on forever." A dramatic version of the story will be presented at the opera house to-morrow by Al. W. Martin's mammoth organization. All the char acters in the drama are impersonated by white actors, but in the plantation and levee scenes a score of colored ladies and gentlemen give exhibitions of buck dancing and other plantation pastime. The scenic accessories are gorgeous and historically correct, and especial care was taken to secure the correctness of the costuming. An immense street parade will start from the theatre at 11:30 to-morrow morning. MUST BELIEVE IT. I All the blood in your body passes through ! i your kidneys once every three minutes. ; fThe kidneys are your I blood purifiers, they fil- ! ter out the waste or j impurities in the blood. ; If they are sick or out of order, they fail to do . their work. Pains, aches and rheu- j matism come from ex- i cess of uric acid in the | blood, due to neglected i kidney trouble. Kidney trouble causes quick or unsteady heart beats, and makes one feel as though j they had heart trouble, because the heart is over-working in pumping thick, kidney- ' poisoned blood through veins and arteries. It used to be considered that only urinary troubles were to be traced to the kidneys, but now modern science proves that nearly all constitutional diseases have their begin- ; ning in kidney trouble.
