We were pleasantly surprised last
Saturday by a short call from Mr. E.
Z. Rhoades, of Saxton.
Our neighbor, across the way, J.
W. Mallery, remembered on Monday
that April 23, was the anniversary
of his advent into this world of
troubles and trials and tribulations.
He would probably have forgotten it,
had it not been for the shower of
birthday cards which loaded his desk
in .the morning mail. We wish him
many more anniversaries accom-

ALLEN FOSTER COOPER \
IS SUMMONED BY DEATH | §
Uniontown, April 21.—Allen Foster
Cooper, former Republican Congress-
man from the Twenty-third District,
composed of Somerset, Fayette and
Greene Counties, dropped dead in the
garden of his home here last evening.
He was 54 years of age. Mr. Cooper

the Republican State Convention in
1905, and had been a member of con-
gress for four terms.
Voted for Prohibition While War
Lasts
All of the church going people of
Somerset who attended services last
Sunday voted unanimously in favor
of prohibition as long as the war
continues, and
gress. Similar action was taken by
religious bodies throughout the en-
tire country. The \ action was
prompted by a desire to aid the au-
thorities to solve the food problem
and to turn the wheat, rye and bar- pt
ley now used in manufacturing dis-
tilled and brewed booze into bread.
