last Sunday. The party came by auto
mobile and returned home the same
evening.
‘Dr. and Mrs. M. R. Milne had for
their guest on Sunday Mr. and Mrs.
George Rust, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Tis-
sue, daughter, Wilhelmina of Morgan-
town, W. Va, and Master Ross Milne,
who spent the summer visiting in
Morgantown, W. Va. They came by
automobile and returned in the even-
ing. acrompanied by Mrs. Milne and
little son Jack who spent several days
visiting relatives and friends in Mor-
gantown.

Miss Bernadette Crowe was tender-
ed a birthday surprise party last Fri-
day evening at her home on Meyers
avenue. About 256 of her friends were
present and the evening was delight-
fully spent in various ways and at 2
late hour lunch which had been pre-
pared and brought by the ladies was
served and thoroughly enjoyed by all
Miss Crowe was also the recipient of
many beautiful and usefil gifts.

Judge Feremiali_ 8. Black was the
first native of Somerset county to se-
cure a seat on the bench of the courts
of Pennsylvania. Ho was subsequently
called to fill the chair of a Justice of
the Supreme Court bench of the State
Attorney General of the United States
and to the office of Secretary of State.
He is admittedly Somerset county's
most disinguished son and many loy-
men think that the members of the
bar have been very recreant to a duty
they owe to his distinguished services
to nation state and couhty in not hav-
ing provided a pértrait of him for the
local temple of justice many years

URIAS SAYLOR
Urias Saylor ig dead; he was born
on what is now the Wilmoth farm,
just across the river from Meyers-
dale. He moved to Morrill, Kansas in
the spring of 1882. He died on Friday
September 29th, of typhoid fever and
ipneumonia, and was about 66 yeas
of age.
For a number of years he had
charge of what iS now the Jacob Peck
farm. He ‘was the son of Abraham
Saylor, who at one time owned both
the Wilmoth and the Peck farms. Ur-
fas Saylor was married to Mary Susan
a daughter of William Beachly of this
place. The widow, one son and two
daughters mourn the death of hus-
pand and father,
Mr. Saylor had seven brothers.-

(deceased) of Phoenix, Arizona; Eli-

TROLLEY CAR
John Smith, a well known citizen
of Meyersdale, on Saturday as the
4:20 trolley was leaving for Salisbury
attempted to mount the step, just as
the car was starting. He lost his
grip and fell down on the brick street,
severely injuring his hip, and getting
pretty well bruised up. Dr. Lichty,
whose office is near where-the acci-
dent occured at Meyers avenue and
Centre streets, dressed the wounds.
Lester Engle who is living at the

ago raised his peanut crop. The pea-
nuts were of the usual size but the
number will not glut the local market
