for Kennell’s Mill, Southampton
township to fetch a cow and calf. Af-
ter having traveled all day over hills
and through valleys, he came to the
place at suppertime where the cow
and the calf were. Early next morning
with the calf on a sled and the cow
tied behind it, he and the owner of
the cow started on their journey;
but alas! when about one-fourth of
a mile from her old home, the cow
got it in her head that she would
not leave her home. With two horses
hitched to the sled, the cow was
forced to move, but she shook her
helad, balked and threw herself. Af-
ter having loosed her and getting
her up again they tried to drive her
but had not got far before she again
laid down in the middle of the road.
Nearly all of the people in Kennell’s
Mill came out to see what the trou-
ble and after holding a general coun-
cil, it was decided that the cow and
its calf should remain at Southamp-
