Tannery Burned."""The Steam Tannery of B M. Stone, in this borough, was entirely destroyed by fire, on Friday mo ruing, of last week. When first discovered, at about 5 o'clock, the fire had mxde such progress as to render it impossible te stay it, or even to save any of the contents of the building. All that could be done by Mr. Stone and the citizens —large numbers of whom were soon on tho ground— was to save the bark piled in the vicinity of the burning building. In this both men and wonieu en gaged with commendable alacrity, Mr. Stone's loss is estimated at £5,000, a part of which is covered by insurance. The originjol' the fire is not known . but it is supposed to have originated from the en gine in the building. The Youth's History of the late civil war written by E. O- Horten, of the JV. T. Day Book is now being sold by canvassers in this County. Its author as all must know, is a plain, vigorous and pointed writer, who has waged an unceasing war against negro equality and abolitionism in all its varied forms and disguises. Wo have not examined this book and therefore cannot give any opinion as to its con tents ; but from the stink it has stirred up among tho woolies here, and elsewhere, we have no doubt that they would prefer Helper's book, which was so highly recom - mended by upwards of seventy leading abolitionists. That book which contributed SJ much to produce the war, of which this one, purports to give the history Sir John Franklin—-the great English navi gator and explorer of the rogions of perpetual snows In the arctio seas, sacrificed his life, and the lives of all bis devoted crew, in a search for undiscovered icebergs. Lady, or, Mrs. John ditto, fooled away her princely fortuae, and thousands of dollars of ether people's money, in a fruitless search after his frozen remains. Dr. Kane, tho eminont scholar and fearlegg explorer of unknown seas, gained fame and a premature grave, ia gratifying his mania for ice-water in the same region. It would be safer and more sensible for Ladies and Gentlemen, who are looking after a cool, cozy place, now-a-day, to •ail into Crane & Lull's Ladies Saloon— op stairs- and order some of those rich, delicious ice-sreams, and cooling Lemonades, prepared by them- -A la north pole. Trout Flailing—op Bowman's Creek—has al wayi, within our memory, been one of the peculiar institutions of our town Indeed, it would seem that the speckled denizens of those pure waters ' have an ambition to be done brown in the kitchens of the town's people. Never having been the owner of a demijohn of the regulation size, we have never "wa ded into" this exhilerating though laborious pastime, whera one takes his chances for thst "luck" which has passed into a proverb, Lart wMk, our townsmen, P. M. Osterhout and P. B. Baldwin, armed and equipped according to law, went up the creek for two or three day,; and report ed, on their return, the capture of 300 of the "fin- O'e." St. Anthony's Fire, Rose, Salt Rheum, Scald Head, Sore Eyes. From Harvey Sickler, Esq., the able editor of th* Tunkhannock Democrat, Pennsylvania. " Our only child, about three years of age, was attacked by pimples on his forehead. They rapidly spread until they formed a loathsome ana virulent sore, which covered his face, and actually blinded his eyes for some days. A skilful physician applied nitrate of silver and other remedies, without any apparent effect. For fifteen days we guarded life hands, lest with them he should tear onen the fes tering and corrupt wound which covered his whole face. Having tried every thing else we iiad any hope from, we began giving your SAKSAPAKILLA, and applying the iodide of potash lotion, as you direct. The sore began to heal when we had given the first bottle, and was well when we had finished the second. The child's eyelashes, which had come out, grew again, and he is now as healthy and fair as any other. The whole neighborhood predicted that the child must die." Syphilis and Mercurial Disease. From Dr. Hiram Sloat, of St. Louis, Missouri. • I find your SARSAPARILLA a more effectual remedy for the secondary symptoms of Syphilis and for syphilitic disease than any other we possess. The profession are indebted to you for some of the best medicines we have." From A. J. French, M. D., an eminent physician of Lawrence, Mass., who is a prominent member of the. Legislature of Massachusetts. "DR. AYER. My dear Sir: I have found your SAKSAPAKILLA an excellent remedy for Syphilis, both of the primary and secondary type, ana effec tual in some cases tiiat were too obstinate to yield to other remedies. Ido not know what we can em ploy with more certainty of success, where a power ful alterative is required." Mr. Chas. S. Van Liew, of New Brunsirick, N.J., had dreadftil ulcers on Ids legs, caused by the abuse of mercury, or mercurial disease, which gTew more and more aggravated for years, in spite of every remedy or treatment that could be applied, until the persevering use of AYER'S SARSAPARILLA relieved him. Few cases can be found more inveterate and distressing than this, and it took several dozen bottles to cure him. Leucorrhcsa, Whites, Female Weakness, are generally produced by internal Srro/iilous Ul ceration, and are very often cured by the alterative effect of this SARSAPARILLA. Some eases require, however, in aid of the SARSAPARILLA, the t-kiliul application of local remedies. From the well-known and widely-celebrated T>r. Jacob Morrill, of Cincinnati. " I have found your SARSAPARILLA an excellent alterative in diseases of females. Many cases of Irregularity, Leueorrlicea, Internal Ulceration, and local debility, arising from the serofhlous diathesis, have yielded to it, and there are few that, do not, when its effect is properly aided by local treatment." A lady, unwilling to allow the publication of her name, writes " My daughter nnd myself have been cured of a verv debilitating Leueorrlia'a of long standing, by two' bottles of your SARSAPARILLA." Rheumatism, Gout, Liver Complaint, Dys • pepsia, Heart Disease, Neuralgia, when caused by Scrofula in the system, are rapidly cured by this EXT. SARSAPARILLA. AYER'S CATHARTIC PILLS possess so many advantages over the other purgatives in the market, and their superior virtues are so universally known, that we need not do more than to assure the public their quality is maintained equal to the best it ever has been, and that they may be depended on to do all that they have ever done. l'rejvired by J.
