Scrofula, or King's Evil,
is a constitutional disease, a corruption of tb*
blood, by which this fluid becomes vitiated,
weak, and poor. Being in the circulation, it
pervades the whole body, and may burst oat
in disease on any part of it. No organ is fro*
from its attacks nor is there one which it nmj
not destroy. The scrofulous taint is variously
caused by mercurial disease, low living, dia
ordered or unhealthy food, impure air, filtM
and filthy habits, the depressing rices, and,
above all, by the venereal infection. What
ever be its origin, it is hereditary in the con
stitution, descending " from parents to ckildtete
unto the third and fourth generation;" indeed,
it seems to be the rod of Him who says, "I
w ill visit the iniquities of the fathers upon
their children." I
Its effects commence by deposition from tns
blood of corrupt or ulcerous matter, which, in
the lungs, liver, and internal organs, is tennsd
tubercles; in the glands, swellings; and on
the surface, eruptions or sores. Tins foul sor
ruption, which genders in the blood, depresses
the energies of life, so that scrofulous constitm
tions not only suffer from scrofulous com
plaints, but they have far less power to with
stand the attack# of other diseases; conse
quently vast numbers perish by disorders
which, although not scrofulous in their nature,
are still rendered fatal by this taint in the
system. Most of the consumption which de
cimates the human family has its origin directly
in this scrofulous contamination; and many
destructive diseases of the liver, kidneys, brain,
and, indeed, of nil the organs, arise from •*
are aggravated by the same cause.
One quarter of all our people arc scrofulon* j
their persons are invaded by this lurking in
fection, and their health is undermined by it.
To cleanse it from the system we must renovate
the blood by an alterative medicine, and in
vigorate it by, healthy food and txsrttM,
Such a medicine we supply in
AVER'S

We are enabled here to offer the community a
remedy which, while it cures the above complaints
with certainty, is still perfectly harmless in any
| quantity. Such a remedy is invaluable in districts
! where these afflicting disorders prevail. This
! "CUKE" expels the miasmatic poison of FETES
AND Auur. from the system, and prevents the de
velopment of the disease, if taken on the first ap
pro.-i hof it-i premonitory symptoms. It is not only
the Lest remedy ever yet discovered for this CIRSS
of complaints, but also the cheapest. The larae
quantity we sm pV f*r a dollar ! rings it within the
i reach o"t every body ; and in bilious districts, where
pr.VF.it AND AGUE prevails, every body should
have it noil use it freely both for cure and protec
ts in. A great superiority of this remedy over any
other ever discovered f r the speedy and certain
cure of Intermittents is that it contains r.o Quinine
or mineral, consequently it produces r.o quinism or
other injurious cherts whatever upon the constito
tion. Those cured by it are left us healthy as if
tin v had never had the disease.

the miasmatic poison. A great variety of disor

! the poison from the blood, and consequently euros
j tlient all alike. It is an invaluable protection to
; innuigrants and persons travelling or temporarily
residing in the malarious district*. If taken occa
sional!*- or daily while exposed to the infection,
that vv; Y he excreted from the system, and cannot
accumulate in sufficient quantity to ripen into dis
ease. Hence it is even more valuable for protec
tion tb u cure, and few will ever suffer from Inter
