Scrofula, or King's Evil,
is a constitutional disease, a corruption of tki
blood, by which this fluid becomes vitiaM,
weak, and poor, lleing m the circulation, it
pervades the whole body, and may burat t
in disease on any part of it. No organ is fr
from its attacks, nor is there one which it may
not destroy. The scrofulous taint is variously
caused by mercurial disease, low living, dis
ordered or unhealthy food, impure air, filth
and filthy habits, the depressing vices, and,
above all, by the venereal infection. What
ever be its origin, it is hereditary in the cog.
stitution, descending " from parents to children
unto the third and fourth generation;" indeed,
it seems to be the rod of Hun who says, I
will visit the iniquities of the fathers" up#
their children." \
Its effects commence by deposition from the
blood of corrupt or ulcerous matter, whkh, in
the lungs, liver, and internal organs, is terrasd
tubercles; in the glands, swellings; and on
the surface, eruptions or sores. This foul cor
ruption, which genders in the blood, deprmuM
the energies of life, so that scrofulous constitu
tions not only suffer from scrofulous com
plaints, but they have far less power to vritl*
stand the attacks of other diseases; conse
quently vast numbers perish by disorders
which, although not scrofulous in their nature,
are stiir rendered fatal by this taint in tits
system. Most of the consumption which de
cimates the human family has its origin directly
in this scrofulous contamination; and many
destructive diseases of the liver, kidneys, braiuy
and, indeed, of all the organs, arise from or
are aggravated by the same cause.
One quarter of all our people are scrofulous;
their persons are invaded by this lurking re
fection, and their health is undermined by it.
To cleanse it from the system we must renovat#
the blood by an alterative medicine, and in
vigorate it by healthy food and exeroiss.
Such a medicine we supply in
AVER'S
Compound Extract of Sarsaparilla,
the most effectual remedy which the medical
skill of our times can devise for tips every
where prevailing ar.d fatal malady. It is com
bined from tlie most active remedial* that have
been discovered for the expurgation of this foul
disorder from the blood, and the rescue of ths
svstem from its destructive consequences.
Hence it should be employed for the cure ef
not only Scrofula, but also those other afflic
tions which arise from it, such as ERVFTITU
and SKI* DISEASES, ST. ANTHONY'S FIRS,
HOSE, or ERYSIPELAS, TIMCLES, PCSTUI.ES,
BI.OTCIIF.S, BLAIXS and BOILS, TUMORS, TETTSS
and SALT RHEUM, SCAT.O HEAP, RINGWORM,
RHEUMATISM, SYPHILITIC and MERCURIAL DIS
EASES, DROPSY, DYSPEPSIA, DKHILITY, and,
indeed, ALL COMPLAINTS ARISING PROM VITIA
TED OR IMPURE BLOOD. The popular belisf
in " impurity of the blood" is founded in truth,
for scrofula is a degeneration of the blood. The
particular purpose and virtue of this Sarsapa
l ill.vis to purify and regenerate this vital fluid,
without which sound health is impossible im
contaminated constitutions.
AYER'S
Ague Cure,
FOR THE SPEEDY CURE OP
Intermittent Fever, or Fever and Ague,
ItemUteiit Fever, Chill Fever, Dumfc
Anne. Periodical Headache, or Billows
Headache, and Ililiout Fevers, indeed
for the whole class of discases originat
ing in biliary derangement, caused ly
the Maluria of Miasmatic Countries.
Wc are enabled here to otTer the community s
remedy which, while it cures the above complaints '
with certainty, is still perfectly harmless in any
quantity. Such a remedy is invaluable in districts
where these atllicting disorders prevail. This
"CUKE" expels the miasmatic poison of FEVER
AND AGUE from the system, and prevents the de
velopment of the disease, if taken on the first ap
proach of its premonitory symptoms. It is not only
the best remedy ever yet discovered for this class
of complaints, but also the cheapest. The l&tgs
quantity we supply for a dollar brings it witb'.n tns
reach of every body ; and in bilious districts, where
FEVER AND AGUE prevails, every body shots!*
have it and use it freely both for cure and protec
tion. A great superiority of this remedy over any
other ever discovered for the speedy and certain
cure of Intennittents is that it contains no Quinias
or mineral, consequently it produces no quinism sr
other injurious effects whatever upon the constitu
tion. Those cured hy it are left as healthy a it
thev had never had the disease.
Fever and Ague is not alone the consequence *t
the miasmatic poison. A great variety of disor
ders arise from its irritation, among which srs
Neumlgia, Rheumatism, Gout, [leanache, Jlhnd
ness, Toothache, I'arache, Catarrh,' Asthma, Pat
pitation, Painful Affection of the Splem, Uyster
ice, Pain in the Bowels, Colic, Paralysis and De
rangement of the Stomach , all of which, whew
originating in this cause, put on the intermittent
type, or become periodical. This " CURE " expek
the poison from the biood. and consequently cures
them all alike. It is an invaluable protection to
immigrants and persons travelling or temporarily
residing in the nnrtarious districts. If taken occa
sionally or daily while exposed to the infection,
that will be excreted from the system, and cannot
accumulate in sufficient quantity to ripen into dis
ease. Hence it is even more valun! le for protec
tion than cure, and few will ever suffer from irter
mittents if thev avail themselves of the protechon
this remedy ahords.
