QUAKERISH. — Mr. Bush used to tell the

A GOOD HOTEL STORY.— Many good things
havo been told of Di. Thompson, the world
renowned humorist,and hospitable proprietor
ot the Atlanta Hotel, whose ready wit but
few are r*ady to encounter. But a little in
client occurred there a ew days rgo, which
rather worsted the doctor.
A lieutenant colonel, who was wounded at
Murfreeshwru' had been stopping with him,
and on the twentieth day called for his bill.—
The obliging clerk handed him the document
with twenty days multiplied by four dollars
Tuc colo.ni 1 scanned the bill and observed its
footing up—eighty dollars. lie turned to the
doctor, who was present, and asked him if he
did not think that was pretty heury The
doctot, with that peculiar II.RS of the head
which indicates a small whirlwind, said
"Ao : if you had to pay four dollars for a
gobbler ; one dollar a dozen for eggs ; four
dollars a pound for Rio coffee ; a dollar and a
quarter for butter ; fifteen dollars a bushel
for potatoes, and five dollars a pair for 6had,

The colonel ran his eye over the bill again,
and quietly plied
