IT. S. 10-40 Bonds.
Theee Bonds are issued under the Act of Congress
of March Bth, 18G4, which provides that all Bond
issued under this Act shall be EXEMPT FROM
TAX 4TION by or under any state or municipal au
th irity. Subscriptions to these Bonds are received
in United States notes or notes of National Banks,
They are TO BE REDEEMED IN COIN, at the
pleasure of the Government. al any period not lets
than ten nor more than forty years from their date
and until their redemption FIVE PERCENT IN
TEREST WILL BE PAID IN COIN, on Bonds of
not over one hundred dollars annually and on all
other Bonds semi-annually. The interest is payable
on the first days of March and September in each
year.
Subscribers will receive either Registered or Cou
pon Bonds, as they may prefer. Registered Bonds
are recorded on the books of the U. S- Treasurer,
and can be transferred only on the owner's order, — j
Coupon Bonds ara payable to bearer, and are more :
convenient for commercial uses.
Subscribers to this loan will have the option of
having their Bonds draw interest from March Ist, by !
paying the accrued interest in coin—(or in United
States or the notes of National Banks, adding fifty
per cent, from premium.) or receive them drawing
interest from the drte of subscription and deposet
as theses Bond are
Exempt from Municipal or State Taxation,
i their value is increased from, one to three per cent
per annum, according to the rate of tax levies in
various parts of the country,
At tho present rate of premium on gold they pay
Over Eight per Cent Interest
in currency, and are of equal convenience as a per
manent or temporary investment.
It is believed that no securities offer so great in
ducements to lenders as the various descriptions of
U.S. Bonds. In all other forms of indebtedness, the
faith or ability of private parties or stock compa
nies or separate communities only is pledge! for
payment, while for the debt of the United States
the whele property of the country, is holdep to ser
cure the p yyinent of both principal and interest In
coin.
These Bonds may be subscribed fer in sums from
SSO up to any magnitude, on the same terms, and i
are thus made equally available to the smallest len- j
der and the largext capitalist They can ba convert- '
ed into money at any moment, nod the holdor wiji j
have the bene-t of the interest-
It may be useful to state in this connection thfit
the total Funded Debt of the United States in !
which interest is payable in goiJ, on the 3d day of
March, 18G4. was 3769, 965, 000. Tho interest on
this debt for the coining fiscal year will be $45,927,
126, while the customs revenue in gold for the cur
rent fiscal year, ending June 30th, 1554, has been
so far at tho rate of over $100,000,000 per annum t
It will be seen that even the present gold reve
nue of the Government arc largely iD excess of the
wants of the Treasury for the payment of gold in
terest, while the recent increase of the tariff will
doubtless raise the annua! receipts from customs on
tho same amount of imparUtions, to $150,000,000
per annum.
Instructions to the National Banks acting as loan
agents were not issued from the United State '1 reas '
ury until March 26, but in the first thtee weeks of
April the subscriptions averaged more than TEN
MILLIONS A WEEK.
Subscriptions will be received by the
First National Bank of Philadelphia, Pa-
Second National Bank ef Philadelphia, Pa.

competent to sustain
M |SfIP */jßswpsHthe vital forces in their
BLeES|f_ v >/ vigorous action, and
leaves tho system to
fall into disorder and
decay. The scrofulous
ronraminatiou is variously caused, by iDurcurisl
disease, low living, disordered digestion from
unhealthy food, impure air, filtli and filthy
habits, the depressing vices, and, above all, by
the venereal infection. Whatever be ita origin,
it is hereditary in the constitution, descending
"from parents to children onto the third and
fourth generation ;" indeed, it seems to be th*
rod of Ilim who says, " I will visit the iniqui
ties of die fathers upon their children." Tbc
diseases which it originates take various name#,
j according to the organs it attacks. In tho
j lungs, Scrofula produces tubercles, and finally
' Consumption ;in the glands, swellings whicft
1 | suppurate and become ulcerous sores; in the
I ' stomach and bowels, derangements which pro
i duce indigestion, dyspepsia, and liver coin*
plaints; on the skin, eruptive and cutaneous
affections. These all having the same origin,
require the same remedy, viz. purification and
jnvigoration of the blood. Purify the blood,
and these dangerous distempers leave you.
With feeble, foul, or corrupted blood, you can
not have health ; with that " life of the flesh "
healthy, you cannot have scrofulous disease.
Ayor'a Sarsaparilla
is compounded from the most effectual and-
I dotes that medical science has discovered for
j this afflicting distemper, and for the cure of the
| disorders it entails. That it is far superior to
' any other remedy yet devised, is known by all
who have given it a trial. That it does com
bine virtues truly extraordinary in their effect
upon this class of complaints, is indisputably
proven by the great multitude of publicly
| known and remarkable cures it has made of
the following diseases : King'® Evil or
Glandular Bwellings, Tumors, Erup
tions, Pimples, Blotches and Sores, Ery
sipelas, Rose or St. Anthony's Fire, Balt
Rheum, Scald Head, Coughs from tu
berculous deposits in the lungs, White
s Swelling, Debility, Dropsy, Neuralgia,
> Dyspepsia or Indigestion, Syphilis and
e Syphilitic Infections, Mercurial Diseases,
Female Weaknesses, and, indeed, the whole
I series of complaints that arise from impurity
j of the blood. Minute reports of individual
cases may be found in AYER'S AMERICAN
I ALMANAC, which is furnished to the (lruggista
" j for gratuitous distribution, wherein may be
' learned the directions for its use, and some of
' i the remarkable cures which it has made when
e ! all other remedies hud failed to afford relief.
" | Those eases arc purposely taken from all sec
; tions of the country, in order that every reader
' may have access to some one who can speak to
him of its benefits from personal experience,
j Scrofula depresses the vital energies, and thus
j leaves its victims far more subject to disease
. 1 and its fatal results than are healthy constitu
tions. Hence it tends to shorten,"and doea
! greatly shorten, the average duration of human
i, j life. The vast importance of these consider*-
r> j tions ha led us to spend years in perfecting a
J ; remedy which is adequate to its cure. Thi§
; we now offer to the public under the name of
AYER'S SAUSAIWRILLA, although it is com
posed of ingredients, some of which exceed the
best of Sars Ljiarilia iu alterative power. By
Its aid you may protect yourself from the suffer
ing and danger of these disorders. Purge out
the foul corruptions that rot and fester in tho
blood; purge out the causes of disease, and
vigorous health will follow. BY its peculiar
virtues this remedy stimulates the vital func
tions, and thus expels tho distempers which
\ lurk within the system or burst out on any
' part of it.
l We know the public have been deceived b>
i many compounds of Sarsajmrilla, that promisee
| much and did nothing ; but they will neither n
deceived nor disappointed in this. Its virtue
have been proven by abundant trial, and thera
remains no question of its surpassing excellency
for the cure of the afflicting diseases it is in
tended to reach. Although under the same
name, it is a very different medicine from any
other which has been before the people, and is
far more effectual than any other which ha®
ever been available to them.
