From Rev. J Newton Brown, D. JD., Editor ef the
Encyclopedia of Religious Knowledge.
Although not disposed to favor or recommend Pat
ent Medicines in general, through distrust of their
ingredients and effects, I yet know of no sufficient
reasons why a man may not testify t the benefits h*
believes himself to have received from any simpto
preparation, in the hope that he may thus contribute
to the benefit of others.
I do this the more readily in regard to Hoofland'i
German Bitters, prepared by Dr. C. M Jackson, ef
this city, because I was prejudiced aga nst them fee
many years, under the impression that they were '
chiefly an aicoholic mixture. lam indebted to my
friend Robert Shoemaker, Esq., for the removal ef
this prejudice by proper tests, and for encouragement'
to try them, when suffering from great and long con
tinued debility. The use of three bottles of theeb
Bitters, at the beginning of the pr sent year, wee
followed by evident relief, and restoration to a de
gree of bodily an l mental vigor which I bad not fell
for six months before, and had almost despaired ef
regaining. I therefore thank God and my friend fler
'directing me to the use of them

ATTENTION, SOLDIERS!
AND THE FRIENDS OF SOLDIERS:
We call attention of all having relations or frieadr

duced by exposures and privations incident to eaap
. life. In the lists, published almost daily in the news
papers, on the arrival of the sick, it will be notibeda
that a very large proportion are suffering from debil
ity. Every case of that kind can be readily cared
by Hnofland's Herman Bitters. We hare no hesita-'
tion in stating that, if tbeso Bitters were freely osed
among our soldiers, hundreds of lives might be sareA
that otherwise would be lost.
The proprietors are daily receiving thankful letters
from sufferers in the army and hospitals, who hava
been restored to health by the use of these Bittere,
