and Military regulations compelled him to leave her
after one short stay to return to his regiment.—
Shortly after by her earnest request, she wis removed
to her daughter's in Lathtop township, and from that
time failed and continued to fail, bearing her suff

vital spark took its final leave Iler funeral ser

Nicholson when the last sad rites were performed,
attended by a large coneousr se of sympathizing

McHENRY.— In Tunkhannnck on Friday Jan. 29'b
1864 Jnux .!< HK.NKV, aged about sixty five years.
John Mcllenry.or as he was usually called •'Jack
the sailor" made his appearance in this vicinity
about tec or twelve years ago, but who he was, or
from where became, no one ku'-w, well educated
tall and commanding in figure, with a full deep voice
and picrceiiig eye, Jack attracted no little attention-
Being rather taciturn when he first mine among us,
it was a frequent remark that ' Jack had seen better
days," but after better aequaintan-e he became
more communicative, ami wo learn that he has been
a "Powder menkey" in the navy in the was of 1312
and afterward a tailor, that during his service in the
nary he was engaged in many of our mortal conflicts,
and afterward visited many foreign ports and be
came acquainted with the manner nnd cust >ui§ ot
the people of various partt of the world. He then
came bark tn his old home in the State of New York
and was made Sheriff or Deputy Sheriff of C rauge
Co. Jack then volacteere 1 in the Florida, and
afterwards in the Ilia k Hawk war, and had many
hairbreadth escapes among tfce indians in these
campaigns. From that time until he came here his
history is to us a myth. He afterwards s'ated that
he had friends living nt or near Beloit, in Wisconsin
bat we never learned their names. Jack's greatest
enemy u the cup,.yet he was strictly honest and
when able to walk, was industrious. Poor Jack !
his veice is hushed and the sparkle of his eyes is
dimmed, he died among strangers and now fills a
paupers grave, no r lative was near to soothe him in
his last moments, nor to follow him to his last rest
ing place ; but although he breathed his last among
strangers, he -va< kindly cared for, and decently
buried, many moist eyes were seen among those
who followed his remains to tie silent House, yel
all feel that the "Sweet little cherub who sits up
•'oft has prepared a safe haven for Jack."
