Godey's Lady's Book
For 1864,
GREAT LITERARY AND PICTCRfAL YEARI
The publisher of Godey's Lady's Book, thankful
to that public which has enabled him to publish a
magazine for the last thirty-four years of a larger
circulation than any in America, has made an ar
rangement with the most popular authoress in this
country —
MARION HART.AND.
Authoress of "Alone" "Hidden Path" "Moss
Side," " Nemesis," and " Miriam "
who will furnish stones for the Lady's Book fer 1864
This alone will place the Lady's Book in a literary
point of view far ahead of any other magazine.—
Marion Harland writes for no other magazine
Our other favorite writers will all continue to fur
nish articles throughout the year.

our wonderfully large circulation enables us to give
them. Other magazines cannot aff rd it. We nev

These fashions may be relied on. Dresses may be
made after them, and the wearer will not subject
herself to ridicule, as would be the case if she visit
ed the large cities dressed after the style of the
plates given in some of our so-called fashion maga
zines.
OUR STEEL ENGRAVINGS,
of which we give twice or three times as many as any
other magazine, are often mistaken far steal. They
are 60 far superior to any others
IMITATIONS.

THE WORLD:

Weekly and Weekly Newspaper.
UNION OF THE WORLD AND ARGUS*
THE WORLD, to which the New York Weekly
Argus has been united, hag to-day five times the ag
gregate circulation of any Democratie or conserva
tive nepgpiper, It addresses weekly alone more
than 100,000 subscribers and constant purchas
ers, and reaches at least halj a million readers.—
With the steady increase in circulation which it now
enjoys, these numbers will soon be doubled. Noth
inz less than this should satisfy those who believe
that the only hope of restoring the Union and the
authority of the Constitution over a now distracted
and divided country, lies in wresting power from the
hands of those whose fanaticism has helped to pro
voke, invite and prolong the war ; and that to ac
complish this end, BO means is so affective as the
diffusion, through able and enterprising newspaeers,
of sound political knowledge among the working men,
the thinking men, and the voting men ot the North.
Enterprise, industry and money will be liberally
expended to make TilE WORLD the BEST NEWS
PAPER IN AMERICA Its news from every part
of the world will be early and authentic. Wherever
the telegraph extends, or railroads run, or steamboats
ply, it will gaihtr the latest intelligence It has a
lirge staff of accomplished correspondents with all
the federal armies, who will telegraph and write to
us the latest news from the various seats of war It
has correspondents and reporters in every political
and commercial centre in America and Europe, whose
letters and dispatches will leave nothii g worthy of

THK MARKET RETORTS of the WORLD are more
complete than those of any other newspaper The
Editors invite comparison in this respect and point to
the Cattle Markets, the general and country Produce

proof of excellence iu this respect. The WORLD has
also a special department devoted to Agriculture,

practical farmers, and selected matter, making a val

of the country.
The war in which the nation is engaged against

Although not disposed to favor or reoommsad Pat

reasons why a man may not testify to the benefits he
believes himself to have received from any simple

I do this the more readily io regard to Hoo Hand's

many years, under the impression that thay won
chiefly an aiooholic mixture. lam indebted to my
