Get out ofthat.—YYe dislike to turn public in

For the reputation of the fair damsel which is now
a little clouded, we suggest that the dismiss her

A. J. GLOSSBRENNER. FRANCIS J. GRITND.
WILLIAM 11. WELSh.
" THE AGE" will advocate the principles and poli
cy of the Democratic party, and will, therefore, nec
essarily favor the restoration of the Union as it was,
and defend the Constitution of the United States, and
that of this Commonwealth.
It will freely and fairly discuss all legitimate sub
jects of newspaper comment, including ol' course, and
pre-eminently at this time, all questions connected
with the existing unhappy c ondition of our ountry.
It will fearlessly criticise the public actsof puulio
servants, and defend tbe legal and constitutional
rights of individual citizens ana of sovereign states,
against assualts from any quarter.
It will seek to awaken the minds of the people to
a proper sense of the actual condition of the Repub
lic—to present to them, truthfully, the fearful perils
in which we stand as a nation—to exhibit the magni
tude of the task that is before them, if they would
check our downward progress—and to inspire them
with patriotic determination to apply THE REMEDY
for our national ills.
In brief, it will, in all things, aim to 1 e the faith
ful exponent of Democratic principles, and to render
itself worthy to be an organ of the Democratic par
ty, under whose auspices our country prospered so
long and so well. Tho restoration of that party —
the party of the CONSTITUTION aud the L'NlON— to
power, in the legislative and executive governmen
tal branches of the States and of the I uion, we be
lieve to be neeessaryto avert anarchy, and the utter
ruin ot tbe Republic. To contribute to that restora
tion will be our highest aim.
The News, Literary, Commercial, hnd other de
partments, will receive due attention, and will be so
conducted as to make ''THE AGE" worthy of the
support of the general reader.
The many difficulties now surrounding an en
terprise of the magnitude of that in which the under
signed are engaged, require them to appeal to the
public for a generous support, and to ask for " THE
AGE" a liberal patronage anil extended circulation.
The present state of the preparatory arrangements
warrants the expectation, that tbe first number of
the Daily will appear before the close of the coming
month, (February, 1363.) The YY'eekly will be is

tn an IF USES.
He has purchased a splendid assortment of Cases,
among which are the Union, Band Clasp, Octagon,
Oval Gilt Frames, Gilt Trays, —very neat and
desirable patterns —besides a variety of plain and
fancy Cases, of every size and description.
The foregoing, he thinks, are inducements sufficient
for every one to come to the Picture Gallery and
secure one of those " faithful shadows"—
" Which light and art, with magic spell,
By working together, can catch so well!"
If not, there are other considerations. How impor
tant that you secure a faithful likenessof your friends
and relatives oro it is too late. You have all experi
enced something of the satisfaction afforded in gazing
on tho Picture of an absent friend ; and some of you
have known the sad pleasure derived from possessing
tho likeness of some loved one who has been laid be
neath the church yard mound, and felt that
"No price could take from you
A memento so cherished ;
For, how sacred the shadow.
Since the substance has perished."
But you perchance have friends still with you
whose pictures you have not yet secured. If so make
it the business of to-day, to-morrow may be too late.
Then come to the Picturo Gallery in Saniuol Stark's
Bricx Block—third story—a few doors east of Wall's
Hotel, and secure ono of those " faithful shadows "
