GODEY'S LADY'S ROOK FOR 1863.
Great Literary and Pictorial Year !
The publisher of Qodey's Lady's Book, thankful to
that public which has enabled hiin to publish a mag
azine for the last thirty-three years of a larger circu
lation than any in America, has made an arrange
mcnt with the most popular authoress in this country j
—Marion llarland, Audioress of "Alone," "Hidden
Path," " Moss Sides," " Nemesis, " and Mirsaui,
who will furnish a story for every number of the La
dy's Book for 1863. This alone will place the La
dy's Book in a litertry point of view far ahead of
any other magazine. Marion llarland writes for no
other publication. Our other favorite writers will
all continue to furnish articles throughout the year.
The.best Lady's magazine in the World, and the
cheapest—The Literature is of that kind that can
be read aloud in the family circle, and the clergy
in immense numbers are subscribers for the Book.
The Music is all original, and would cost 25 cents
(the price of the Book) in the music stores ; but most
of it is copyrighted, and cannot be obtained except
in "Godey."
Our Steel Engravings. All efforts to rival us in
this have ceased, and we now stand alone in this de
partment, giving as we do, many more and infinitely
better engravings than are published in any other
work.
Godey's immncse double sheet fashion piates con
taining from five to seven full length Colored Fash

Far ahead of any Fashions in Europe or America
—Godey's is the only work in the world that gives
these immense plates, and they are such as to have
excited the wonder of publishers and the public. The
publication of these plates cost 510,000 More thau
fashion plates of the old style, and nothing but eur
wonderfully large circulation enables us to give
them, Other magazine cannot afford it. We never
spare money when tho public can be benefited.
These fashions may be relied on. Dresses may
be made after them, and tho wearer will not subject
herself te ridicule as would be tho case if she visited
the large cities dressed after tho style of
the plates in some of our,so called fashion magazines.
Onr wood Engravings, of which we give twice or
three times as many as any other magazine, are of
ten mistaken for steel.—They are so far superior to
any others-
Imitation. Beware of them. Remember publi
cation and the cheapest. If you take Godey, you
want no other magazine.
Everything that is useful or ornamental in a house
can be found in Godey.
Drawing lessons. No other magazine gives them
and we have given enough to fill several large vol
umes.
Our receipts are such as can be found nowhere
else. Cooking and all its variety—Confectionary—

Receipts upon all su' jocts are to be found in the pa
ges of the Lady's Book. We originally started this
department, and have peculiar facilities for making it
most perfect. This department alone is worth the

He has purchased a splendid assortment of Cases,
among which are the Union, Band Clasp, Octagon,
Oral Gilt Frames, Gilt Trays, J-c., —very neat and
desirable patterns—besides a variety of plain and
fancy Cases, of every size and description.
The foregoing, he thinks, are inducements sufficient
for every one to come to the Picture Gallery and
secure one of those " faithful shadows"—
" Which light and art, with magic spell,
By working together, can caieh so well!"
If not, there are other considerations. llow impor
tant that you secure a faithful likeness of your friends
and relatives ore it ts too late. You have all experi
enced something of the satisfaction afforded in gazing
on the Picture of an absent friend ; and some of you
have known the sad pleasure derived from possessing
the likeness of some loved one who has been laid be
neath the church yard mound, and felt that
" No price could take from you
A memento so cherished ;
For, how sacred the shadow,
Since the substance has perished."
But you perchance have friends still with you
whose pictures you have not yet secured. If so make
it the business of to-day, to-morrow may be too late.
Then come to the Picture Gallery in Samuel Stark's
