As an Illustration of the Indeflnlteness
of our knowledge of the dates of early
Biblical history we caa notice two im
portant incidents. The year la which
Saul became king of Israel is variously
believed to be B. C. 1095. 1048. 1037 and
1020. Which date, or indeed if any is
corrvet, we have no means of making
certain. The date of the beginning of
David's reign Is as far from being cer
tainly ascertained, fssher says It was
10or. According to Biblical synchron
isms It was 1009. The Assyrian computa
tion puts It at 1017. Patton puta it as
late as the year 1000 B. C.
