by Governor McMillan, and an address
by Grana Master Sargent, President
Roosevelt was introduced by Acting
Grand Master Hannahan. His recep

"I believe emphatically," Mr. Roose

worth of an organization depends upon
its being handled with the courage,
the skill, the w isdom, the spirit of fair
dealing as between man and man, and
the wise self-restraint, which I am
glad to be able to say your Urother

spoke of the necessity of work. "1

he sai 1, "at which ever end of the so

done secures the successful American
life.
"A great deal can be accomplished,'
he said, "by working each for all and
all for each, but we must not forget
that the first requisite in accomplish

himself. I feel that organizations like

whole body politic. It Is a good thing
that there should be a large body ol
our fellow citizens who exercise th(
old qualities of courage, daring and

should be a profession whose mem

Prominent Doctor Seriously Scalded.
Philadelphia, Sept. 8. Dr. J. Wyllif
Hassler, of this city, was very seri
ously scalded yesterday as a result ol
a collision on the Vennsylvanla Rail
road near Broad Street Station, this
city. A shifting engine ran into a New
York express, tearing out the steam box
of the locomotive on the express train.
Dr. Hassler attempted to escape from
the train through a car window and
was enveloped in live steam. He will
be badly disfigured for life. No one
else was hurt Dr. Hassler was re
turning fom Long Island Sound, where
he assisted in performing an operation
on Bradford B. McGregor, son of the
late Ambrose M. McGregor, one of the
millionaires of the Standard Oil Com
pany. Did Not Set Dogs On Teddy. Jr.
Arlington, S. D., Sept. 6. There is
no truth in reports that Populist far
mers set their dogs upon young Theo
dore Roosevelt and his hunting party.
Farmers have posted notices to stop
hunting on their premises, but these
were aimed no more at young Roose
velt than the obscurest hunter. Poll
tics had nothing to do with the post
ing of notices, as practically all the
farmers banded together to enforce
the game laws and prohibit transients
from trespassing.
