SATURDAY EVENING TOST.
Commenting editorially on the articles by
Senator Jk'veridge, now appearing in the Satur
day Evening Post, the December lteview of
Reviews says :
"Auy American who wishes to understand
what the Russians arc doing in Manchuria, and
to grasp the matter so firmly and and under
st'indingly that he can shut his eyes and see it
all, must read a series of papers from the pen of
Senator IJevi ridge, of Indiana, now apjiearing in
The Stitimlay Ricniny Pout, of Philadelphia.
Mr. Iieveridge's first article in this series ap-
i jwared on November 1 6. This energetic and
brilliant young statesman, who took his sent in
the Senate two years ago with a remarkable
knowledge of the Philippine situation based
upon severrl months of travel and study on the
ground, has now been spending the half year
since Congress adjourned in revisiting the far
Fast, going this time by way of Euroe, and
crossing Siberia and Manchuria under circum
stances which gave him an intimate acquaintance
with the newest aspects of the expansion move
ments ot, the Russian empire. Hardly any
other man in public life has Mr. Revcridge's,
power of vivid statement."
Senator Revcridge's next article in this series
A Diplomatic Game for an Empire, is an inside
chapter of international negotiations, and tells
how Russia outwitted England, made an ally of
France and took from Japan the fruits of her
victory over China.

-pMIE POST received a jHistal card Dec.
27th, mailed at Sclinsgrove and it reads
as follows:
"There is a party of strange picture agents
scouring our county who have their head-quarters
in Chapman township right amongst the
small pox patients. Our people should lie
acquainted with these facts so that they could
gilard against them." Respectfully,
A. SniscRiBKU.
We have paid very little attention to this
warning note, because the writer failed to reveal
his identity. In a matter of so grave import
ance, if this is true, there Mould l e no oe ssion
for the writer to withhold his name. If the
writer wishes us to credit this story, he. must
sign his name to it, not necessarily for publica
tion, but to assure us that it was not concocted
for malicious purposes.
A few weeks ago a woman residing outside of
Lewistown went into one of the newspaper
ollicers und told the editor that one of their
children had the small pox and in order that
people might not cxjiose themselves to denser,
the editor should tiouud u note of warning by
publishing the fact in the newspaper. The
editor thanked the lady for taking such an
unusual interest in the welfare of other people.
The irxceit!g seemc'1, str.inge tothenews
naper man that he started an investigutio nnd
discovered that the report was false and that the
entire property of her informant, husband was
lewed by the sheriff and was t be sold in a few
days. The woman wanted the report circulated
so as to keep purchasers away from the sale.
As the report is not signed we can not pin
much faith to its trutl fufness, but there still
would be no harm in making inquiry where any
strangers have licen prior to coming to your
homes.
It is safe to assume, however, that picture
agents' are wise enough for their own security
Not to waste anytime among small pox patients.
We have given t ils u isigncd communication
more attention than we usually do, but we have
done so for the purpose of showing those who
are in the habit of writing them, ho.v little real
consequence there must be in such letters when
the authors are ashamed of their names.
