At a guthering of old folks in the
town of Charlemont, Mass., the other
day, the chairman called for all
present over 70 years of age to rise,
and 72 responded. He then asked
all those who were over 80 to rise,

The health department in Boston
has completed a bacteriological test
of public telephones and advises care
to avoid actual contact of the lips
with the transmitter. Cleansing with
five per eent. carbolio acid solution
after each use is recommended. Pub
lic phonograph tubes, which enter the
ear, may also convey disease.
Cheboygan, Mich., claims to have
the youngest grandmother In Amer
ica. She married at 12, and gave
birth to a daughter a year later. The
child, following her mother's exam
ple, married young and lately when
16 years old gave birth to child,
