The "Post" Holds the Plum.
We would like to know if there
ivnv newspaper published any
where in Pennsylvania, outside of
the Middleburgh Post, or if there
another one published in the
United Stales, or Spain or anywhere
else in the world, or ujon any of
the planets that was held back by a
by a jMistmastcr because of 47 cents
postage remaining unpaid on a pre
ceding issue. If no one rises up to
claim a share in this honor, and we
know there will not, the Post will
laim the distinction of Ix-ing the
only paper published upon the face
of the gloln.' (including Spain) or
upon any of the planet that lias
been destined for such a remarkable
distinction.

Among the monster railway sta
tions of the world that of St. Louis
is claimed to be the largest. It has
an area of 424,200 feet, 31 tracks
and 24 roads running into it. Its
capacity is almost double that of
the Boston and Maine station at
Boston, the second largest in the
world.
Two hundred and sixty trains
pass in and out of the Union station

average 100 passengers to a train.
This means Umt a total of 26,000 pas
sengers pass through that station ev

city in the state-Springfield-turned
loose in a day aud coming toot.

Taking the 1 daily average of
26,000 passengers as the basis of
thif calculation, 780,000 travelers
pass through the Union station

PA, THURSDAY,
Jacob J. Shelly Dead.
The Late Foreman of the
"Post" Closes a Brief, but
Industrious Life.
On Monday ihoming at 20
minutes past 3 o'clock, Jacob J.
Shelly, the late foreman of the Mid
dleburgh Poht, paused from life to
eternity. He was Ihh-ii April 4,
1 875, hence, was 23 years, one
month and 10 day old. His life
was short, but it was u useful one
and one spent in industry and faith
fulness. In January 1880. he en
tered the printing office of ihe AYim
Item of this place. He finished his
trade and continued in the service
of that paper until July 15, 1805
when the editor of the Post tender
ed to him the position of foreman of
thisolliee. lie ncccptcd the position
and filled it with unHinehiiig devo
tion until Jan. 25, 1808 when at
the close of his days' kit Kir, he was
seized with his first hemorrhage.
It was a most unwelcome thought
to miss a day's work, but alas! it
was not xsillc for him to avoid it.
He remained at home for two weeks.
Meanwhile the Post was moved
into the new and commodious build
ing it now iMvupics. Prom the time
the new building was contemplated,
Ins lushest ambition was to work in
tlie )ew building. He could not
resist the temptation aud returned
to work, but the ravages of gallop
ing consumption had gotten such a
iDwerful hold iiwn his system, that
he was compelled to yield to its
mjuidac after 3 days' work and
never after was able to return to tliw
work he loved so much. In Fcli
ruarv 1N!M he was converted in the
U. B. church of this place and re
mained faithful to the time lie drew
his last lireath when prayers to his
(rod were Umiii his dying lips. As
ns emplover, we ran truthfully siv
that we never cxmvt to get u more
faithful employee. Ilisu("eiing is

eternal where miilerings never eoine.
