Evangelical church will take place
at Hughcsville next week. The
local pastor, Rev. J. H. Hertz, will

The people are starving in Culm.
We have plenty in Snyder County.

The people of Middledurg and
vicinity contributed $3G7.US in
food, medicine, clothing and money
for the starving Cubans. It took
only two days for the contributors
to bring their ofienngs in. If some
one in other towns of the county
would offer to pack and ship the

provisions, no douiit nearly every
one would contribute. Try it.
At Bellefonte Saturday a long
continued litigation, that lias cost
about $1,000, exclusive of attorneys'
fees, ended with a verdict for the
plaintiff for 6 cent. Ihc action
was one in trespass, brought bv
Alice Garbrick against J. B. Gentzel,
to settle a dispute over a strip of
land 40 rods long and 0 feet wide.
Besides the 0 cents the plaintiff' got
about two-thirds of the land iu dis
pute.
Another lurge-size scandal is in
full blast in our neighborhood
village of Fort Royal, which threat
ens to dismiss one of its ministers,
probably disrupt the congregation.

As we understand that it is being
investigated by the authorities of
the church involved, we forbear fur

employ at least 600 men for 5 years?

If an industrial concern would
come to Middleburg and agree to
erect a $150,000 building and em
ploy at least 600 men for 5 years
guaranteed, would thorn who are
able donate 10 acres of laud and
$75,000? This would necewitate
the building of 400 or 450 new
dwelling houses and at least 60 new
business houses for the use of tits
employees of the new concern alone.

Death of John Neff.
John Nefl'of Big Run, Jeffe rson
county, died of pneumonia on Thurs
day of last week, aged about 80
years. His remains were brought
to Center Hall and buried on Sat
urday afternoon. He was a brother
ot Dr. Peter Xefl, deceased, of
vyeuier oan, aiso oi nev. Isaac
Neff of Uiis place and William Neff',

sdiool building.
Last Wednesday evenimr the
house of Henry Bachman was dis
covered to be on fire, originating in
the ceiling in the kitdien. A few
minutes later would have set fire to
the whole house as tltere was a
high wind from the west which might
have swept over the meter nart of

the scene of fire and soon had it un
