DR. SWENGEL'S PAfiK.
A Former Miilillebnrtr (illxen n lro
irrpHslve Knrmer In the Wmt,
We are in receipt of the AUnhi'ii
Ai'irx of Saith Dakota under date of
August 2(')th which says :
Oncol the most successiuiiy con
ducted farms in this rcjrion this vear
is that of Dr. D. I Swengel, situ
ated about seven miles north and a
little west of Aberdeen. Through
the varying years of the past, when
the prospect was otten gloomy and
disappointing, the doctor kept at
work improving his place and add
ing to his bettcrpiciits, until he now
lias a firm property of which he
may justly feel proud. lb- has not
always been fortunate in his tenants
ami has lost some advantages iu that
respect which others have had.
However, his place this year will
net him for his share over 61,000.
There are 12 1 acres of wheat, some
of it very fine indeed, upon the farm,
while oats, barley, millet, etc., in
crease the acreage to cereals to over
three h und retl acres. Hehas eigh
teen acres iu corn, and has by all
odds the liest piece of that product
iu the neighborhood and there is
probably no licttcr in the county.
His potatoes and vegetables will
give big yields and will show a
handsome profit. Dr. Swengel s
father was one of the lcst farmers
in Pennsylvania in his dav, and the
general principals of land cultivation
are well understood by the doctor
and he is, now turning them to good
hi vantage
Dr. Swengel's farm has an excel
lent equipment of buildings and ma
chinery and apparatus. lOverything
is well cared for and slip shod meth
ods are not tolerated. When ma-
chinerv is not in use it is housed.
ic same care and fbrcthou'dit,
which pav big in the long run, are
exercised in all directions. He has
twenty-three head of horses upon
the place, many of which he raised,
more than as inaiiv cattle, and 1kll,
owls of all kinds, etc. His plans
for next year promise to be even
more successful than thev have
been this.
Dr. Swengel formerly resided on
the farm west of town now occupied

"On the 17th instant Dr. II. S.
P.raucht of Milesburg and Miss
Madge Allison, of our village, were
married at Centre Hall, the bride
being an accomplished daughter of
A. Allison, Ks., one of our highly
esteemed citizens. After a brief
visit to Philadelphia the couple re
turned here on Saturday last, and
were the guests of C. P. Long. In
the evening quite a reception was
held, confined to the immediate fam
ily and relations ; Mr. and Mrs.
Long enacted the role of host .and
hostess in their usual inviting and
agreeable manner. The Spring Mills
band tendered the couple a very
pretty and lively serenade. Mr.
Iioiig's residence was surrounded by
a large assemblage. The future
