SIMPTONS OF CHRONIC CATARRH.
As Described by Dr. IIaitmah, okk
or tbk Orf-atest Actiioritim
akd Writers oh
Catarrh.
The symptoms of chronic catarrh
vary according to the stHe and
exact location of the diseaso. The
hrst stage of catarrh of tlm nose
and head produces dinclnrgn from
tue nose, sneezing pain in t lie eyes
and forehead, weak, sometii'ios wa
tery eyes, occasionally loss of mem
ory. In the last stage the discharge
ceases, nnd dry offensive st.dis form
in the nose; polypi growths some
times form in one or both nostrils,
aud the pain in the head and eyes is
much less. Unless something is
done to prevent, the catarrh will
follow the mucous membrane into
the lungs, where it will bo followed
by cough, night sweats, r' 'id loss
of flesh, and the other drea l symp
toms of consumption.
Po-ru-na is a specific for every case
of catarrh, whether the disease is
locateil in the lungs, kidneys, or
stomach. The dose of pn-ru-na
should bo a largo tablesspoonful be-
foro each meal and at bedtime, wo
men and some delicate men should
begin with ateaspoonful, and slowly
aud gradually increase to the above
full dose.

Teachers' Institute.
The teachers of Monroe township
met in the High school room at
Shaniokin Dam, Friday evening,
October this being the first
meeting of the eleventh annual ses
sion of the "Teachers Instituto of
Monroe township." The teachers,
Messrs. Jarrett, Kessler, Kuhn,
Klingler, (laugler, Shafer, Bulic
and Ueichley were all present aud
took an active part in the proceed
ings. The subject, "Beading and
how to teach it," was very ably dis
cussed by the different teachers
and Superintendent Bowersox, who
honored us with his presence and
affablo disposition. The subject,
"Tardiness, and how to overcome
it," was next commented upon by
the different members, after which
an organization was inaugurated to
be known as the .Monroe To--
xeucneis caning CHM-ieiy--wnicn
to hold jekly meetings at the
different school houses. These two
societies, tuKft'gh their able local
talent, aud loV11- support of our
energetic Couiy Superintendent,
are destined i elevate the intellect
ual standard of our community to
such an eminent degree, that it will
bo second to none in the state.

and attempted to cut her throat.
She warded off the razor but was cut
