that, as far as it may be practicable,

school of Pennsylvania between

may become contestants,
Mh. It is expected that the names
of each essayist and as far as pos-
silli xcerpts from essays will be
printed in "Forest Leaves," tho or
gan of the Pennsylvania Forestry
Av-'ociatioii, and tho essays winning
the prize- will also bo published in
"Forest Leaves," but no restrict ions
upon publication of essays in local
papers are made.
The sole desiro of the Association
is to 4 iic( urago tho study of and
interest in tree growth, and none
should be deterred from entering
into the contest because of modesty
or dillideiice. Tho purpose has been
to open tho subject to all iu tho
broadest manner possible. A con
cise, well-thought-out essay will bo
as apt to win a prize for its practi
cal features as a composition of
greater length, abounding id elabo
rate phraseology or presenting rhe
torical perfection.
Teachers everywhere in the State
are requested to enter the contest
The subject is a practical one, and,
by keeping their eyes open during
the Summer vacation, teachers will
find innumerable facts on every hand
bearing thereon, which "he who runs
may read'' and write about.
