The rain on Saturday night and
Sunday was welcomed again, as
plowing wont hard. . . .Our base-ball
boys came home on Saturday eve
ning with their blood at 120 degrees
Fahrenheit, and claim they did not
play the Middle burgh club, but as
sert that it was an imported team at
least three years old. Tho Middle
burgh club gained no honor by this
game, and our boys lost no glory
. . . .Owing to the inclement weather
on Sunday morning, Bev. Zimmer
man postponed communion for two
weeks. ..Most of our farmers are

A party composed of four ladies
and two gentlemen (all colored) ar
rived hero from Lewistown on Fri
day with tho intention of holding a
series of meetings in Mr. Fees'
woods, a short distance east of town.
They had drawn quito a crowd on
Saturday evening, but on account
of the inclemency of tho weather,
tho meetings ure discontinued. The
minister preached in Specht's Hall
on Sunday evening from Hebrews,
1:2. It is a common thing for white
people to ridicule tho colored race,
and it is true, they do somo things
that are laughublc, but whito peo
ple do tho same. Persons who are
intellectually bmart find no pleasure
in making i-poi t of others whom
they consider beneath themselves
