Hastings Is The Man.
Only the strongest kind of oppo
sition from tho country delegates to
the May convention, when a Guber
natorial candidate is to be nnmcd,
can prevent the nomination of Gen
eral Daniel H. Hastings, an honor
which he barely lost four years ago.
The Philadelphia delegates to the
State Convention on Saturday de
clared in favor of him in the follow
ing resolution offered by David
Martin :
Jlt.si.ti, That 111 harmony with

selves to so act and vote in said con
vention us to best promote his nomi
nation. There wan notrouble about adopt
ing such a resolution, for every one
of the delegates was heartily in favor
of Hustings' nomination and no
other name was mentioned. This
action of the Philadelphia delegates
gives the nomination to Mr Hastings
beyond a doubt, as it is well known
that the country delegates are with
him nliuobt to a man.
BEAVERTOWN.
On Tuesday morning, January 1C,
18D4, Henry Kern bade adieu to the
troubled scenes of life. His death,
which oocured at the old homestead
where he always lived, about one

Being open handed, open hearted
and kindly dispositioned, he could
not turn a deaf ear to a plea for
help, in consequence of which he
was often made tho victim of wolves

thousands of thtllars. Not with
standing this fact, he was still at the
time of Ins dentil, n well-to-do man.
