Is There a Dog Tax For Sny
der County ?
The Attorney General Says "No."
To settle a dispute we wrote to
Win. K. Miller, of the State Library,
llarrisburg, on Tuesday, to inter
view the Attorney General of Penn
sylvania on the dog question for
the benefit of the leaders of the
Post. The following is his reply in
full :
II WlCIsnt'KU, Pa., Al'KIL'J, l'.Ni.
T. H. llximii. Sir:
In reply to yours of yesterday I
have to say that the Attorney Gen
eral is of the opinion that there is
no general State tax upon doys, but
that only local tn laws atVicting
dogs in certain counties, are in force
in the State of I'ciniM lvania. I'nder
these local statutes, he add", there
is no provision coiicei ning the age.
of the dog, and literally an aitimid
known as n pup is not subject to
taxation. That encumbrance visits
him after arriving to the full stature
of grown-up dogship. The tax is 'J."
cents for every dog, ,1 for every
second, and l?J for every third dog.
This applying to certain counties
only and there is not, according to
the Attorney Geuertd, a tax law for
Snyder county.
Yours very truly,
Wm. K. Miller.
