ton. The latter drew his pistol, but was
shot twice by tho Indians, the first bullet
ranging toward the top of liis head, the
other passing through the lower part of his
face.
After securing tho keys to the shuchles
and removing them, tho Indians mutilate I
the body of Reynolds, crushing in his skull
in a horrible manner. Then they disappear
ed. Middleton, after recovering siilficiently,
walked back to Riverside uud gave the
nlurm. Tho Mexican prisoner, after lie had
warned Middleton, run toward the hills. He
was tired at several times, but not hit. After
the Indians had left he secured a horse, rode
to l'lorencq n::d give himself up. Troop
have been ordered out from Apache, San
Curios, Ft. McDowell and Ixiwcll to inter
cept the murderers if piible.
