as follows :
An Act to proviilo transportation
to Ot ttynlniiK, nt the time of the
dedication of the monuments of
the Pennsylvania organizations, for
all tho surviving soldiers residents
in Pennsylvania, who participated
in the battle of Gettysburg on the
first, second, or third day of July,
olio thousand ci'lit hundred sixty
three, and w ho served in any of such
Pennsylvaniii orK'tnizations.
Whereas, The act of tho legisla
ture of one thousand eight hundred
and eighty-seven provided for the
erection of suitable monuments on
the battle field of Gettysburg to
mark tho positions held by Pennsyl
vania organizations in said buttle,
which monuments are to be dedicat
ed at such time during the present
year as may be designated by the
Governor of thin Commonwealth, at
which dedication the presence of all
Pennsylvania soldiers who partici
pated in the battle of Gettysburg is
greatly desired i and whereas, The
people of this Commonwealth have
always venerated the patriotic and
heroic deeds of her soldiers, and
now ilesire not only to commemor
ate the sacrifices of the fallen he
roes of the Republic but also to
honor the survivihg veterans and
make their remaining days comfort
able ami happy s therefore,
Sue 1. IJe it enacted by the Sen
ate and House, of Representatives
of the Commonwealth of Pennsyl
vania in General Assembly met, and
it is hereby enacted by theauthority
of tho same. That at the time of
the dedication of the monuments of
the Pennsylvania organizations on
the battle-field of Gettysburg there
hhull be provided and furnished,
at the expense of the Common
wealth, transportation to all the
surviving honorably discharged sold
iers now resident in Pennsylvania,
whoso names were borne upon the
rolU of such organization previously
to and ut tho date of the battle of
Gettysburg on July first, second, or
third, one thousand eight hundred
and sixty-three, such transportation
to cover distance from the stations
at which such soldiers live, or from
the railroad stations nearest to their
places of residence, by the shortest
or most convenient route to Gettys
burg and return, and shall be so ar
ranged as to passage that the said
veterans shall have the privilege of
remaining at Gettysburg not loss
than one week, ami shall have the
privilege of stopping oil' at any sta
tion en route
Sec. 2. That the Adjutant-General
be and he is hereby authorized and
empowered to provide transporta
tion over tho lines of tho several
railroads of this State over whose
route any of the soldiers referred
to in the first section of this act shall
require passage to and from Gettys
burg, and for such transportation
he is authorized to pay such . . . .

authorized to provide such blanks
and establish such rules for the re
ception of applications and tho is
suance of orders for transportation
us may bo deemed proper, and ho
hlnill take the necessary means to
give publicity to the provisions of
this act in order that all the soldiers
entitled to transportation under the
Hume may avail themselves of its
benefits.
Skc. M. That any person w ho shall
personate or attempt to personate
any soldier entitled to the provi
sions of this act in order to secure
transportation under this net, or
shall use or attempt to use the
transportation provided for any
sucli soldier, shall be guilty of a
misdemeanor, and upon conviction
thereof shall be fined not more than
one hundred dollars, or be impris
oned not exceeding one month, or
be both fined and imprisoned at the
conviction is had.
Sec. 4. That the sum ot titty
thousand dollars, or so much there
of as may be necessary, is hereby
appropriated out of any money in
the treasury not otherwise appro
priated, to defray the expense of
transportation provided for in this
act, . . . the money to be paid
on requisition of the Adjutant-Gen
eral and warrant of Auditor-Gen
eral, drawu in the usual manner,
providing that duly verified vouch
ers showing the detailed disburse
ments under this act shall be made
