The conference met in a back room with closed doors. Squire Helm, of Shamokin, was elected chairman and John II. Arnold, of bnyder, secre tary of the meeting. The roll of counties was called and each county presented a name. Northumberland, Harold McClure ; Snyder, ex-Sheriff Bolender, and Union, S. D, Bates, of Lewisburg. A ballot was taken and each candidate received three votes. The conference then adjourned for dinner and consultation. During the hour for dinner the Snyder and Union county delegates held several conferences. The session assembled at two o'clock and after talking over the situation for some time took a second ballot which stood the same as the first, each candidate receiving threo votes. The third ballot was then ordered and on that Arnold, of Snyder, drop ped Bolender and voted for Bates. McClure received three and Bolender two, while Bates had four. The conference then proceeded to take the fourth ballot and the entire Snyder delegation voted for Bates, he receiving six votes while Northum berlaud went down with her flag fly ing for McClure. Chamberlain, of Milton, moved that the nomination be made unanimous which was done. Two Hoodera Trade Wires Indianapolis, Sept. 17. In a di vorce suit filed at Lafayette Satur day afternoon, the plaintiff, Lena Chriatoffer, alleged that three months after marriage her husband went on a spree and made a trade to sell his wife to Jacob Demerly. In return Christofler was to receive Demorly's wife. The trade, it seems, was perfectly satisfactory until a few dayB after when Demerly called at the house and Christofler attempted to deliver the "property," when the plaintiff refused to be de livered, and this so angered her husband that he threatened to kill her if she did not leave the house. In great fear she left the premises, and has since continued to reside with an aunt. The defendant is quite wealthy, and his wife is an intelli gent and rather prepossessing wo man. buniay School Convention For the best interest of the Sun day School work of the county it is important that there be a united ef fort all along the line. In view of this fact and that the interest of the Sunday School work of the county may be best promoted, the following resolution was passed at the county convention held at Beavertown last may. Rttolvtd. That the vice presidents make special efforts to hold district conventions mrougnoui me county. It is hoped that the vice presidents of the county who are the presidents of the district conventions will make an earnest effert to hold a conven tion this fall in each township. If it is thought advisable two or more townships can join and hold a con vention of a day or two continuance. These conventions can be made of great good to the Sabbath School work throughout the county and ue a means of bringing together and uniting the christian people in the christian work. Let there be a grand rally all along the line of S. S. work. So we may maintain me honor conferred on us as being one of the banner counties in the State. A collection should be taken at each convention for the benefit of State and County Associations, and reMirts sent of all conventions to II. I. lloniig, Itec. Sec. at Beaver Springs.
