COM MITT KK.
For the benefit rf thos qf our rea
ders who may want to visit the deer
country th is fall aud are therefore in
need of information regarding the
ground, we would state that the en
tire country from across Troxelville
west to the Hoard Shanty iu Treas
ters Valley, with the exception of a
mile square patch around Hooney's
Hollow anil u mile of Treastrrs Val
ley from the Iiuckwheat Shanty
west, is entirely burned out. Farts
of White oak Hottom and Long wells
Draft also escaped the fire. The
Hoard Shanty Iu Treasters Valley is
burned, and how much of the country
west of that we could hot learn. Lit
tle Vally is swept clean. Notwith
standing the ravages of the fire, deer
seem more plenty than they have
been for many year, aud are just as
apt to be jumped on the burnt as ou
the unburnt districts. There Is, how
ever, au entire absence of bear iu the
burnt territory, aud where they got
to Is a puzzle us uot as much as a
trull could be found In lust week's
snow. The deer shot by our party
were unusually fat as a rule iu spite
of the apparaut luck of food. The
old-timed run-ways, however, are of
little account, as the animate run just
about where they please.
And now, since we have societies for
nearly everything, wouldn't it be a
good Idea to inaugurate a "scandal
adjusting commit tee," belore whom
all reports of doubtful gossip be pre
sented aud by them considered before
it Is given out for circulation. It
would certainly be an improvement
on tlio morals of every community.
The requirements would be a "Grand
Uogul" or chairman, who Is entirely
free from scandal, a secretary who
could reoord the reports without
prejudice, and a treasurer who could
keep them without telling her hus
band. There is, of course, no use in
receiving men Into the order, as they
are all Simon pure, aud never recog-
nUe anything that smackers f Im
purity when directed at their lady
acquantanoes. They are all honor
ableas purs as lea aud as chaste as
snow. How could anything unclean
ootue from so pure a source. Ask any
of them and they'll tell you the same,
and then If youdoubt their word no-
tloe their daily walk and eon versa
tlon on the curb-stone, chimney-cor
ner or bar-room. This is not Intend
ed for lllddleburgh as we dou't need
sucb an organization here, but It
might do some good elsewhere and
wt wont sbarge any thing for the tug
geitloaV.

frequently for the medicine. These
