Enos Bhlpe, of Upper Augufta
Northumberland county, among
other things Its the way of Improve
ment on his farm, has lately planted
250 apple trees, 800 pear trees, 450
peach trees, 000 quince trees, 4,000
raspberry plants, 2,500 currants and
5,000 strawberry plants.
The Pennsylvania company has
been experimenting in the Altoona
shops with the Innumerable devices
far heating cars by means other than
the deudly stove. The best plan so
far tested is for the use of steam sup
plied by the locomotive, and it Is not
unlike that now in ase on some of the
roads running out of Boston.
The election returns were comput
ed on Wednesday last by Register
Duck, Sheriff Middleswartli and Com
inissioners Uohu and Krdiey. Judge
Wetxel being a candidate aad Judge
Smith being unable to sit alone, the
law in such cases provides that the
returns be computed by the above
named officers.

winter diptherin attacked a family in
Monroe township, that county. The
heavier covers need en the piilients'

In the spring these covers were pack
ed away, and a few weeks ago these
covers were taken out and put on the
beds. There are now three cuee.i of
diptherin in Hint family, and there
are no other eases in the neighbor
hood. And yet some people say that
