sweetest flower of modern verse, and
used to repeat it as often us Daniel

Mr. Thomplon, a member of the
Legislature from Butler county, has
introduced a bill having for Its object
the checking of the swindling prac
ticed on furuifrs by persons who go
around through the country selling
goods which they never deliver, and
taking In payment therefor what af
terwards turns out to bo a negotiable
note. The bill proposes to hmke all
such notes lion-negotiable, which will
be notice to bankers aud others not
to purchase them.
Some objection is being raised to
the proposed amendment to the
school law lining the minimum term
at six mouths, ou the ground that it
would bo unjust to the country dis
tricts where it Is impossible to send
the larger children to school until the
full work has been done. The objec
tion is not well taken. Country chil
dren have as much right to be pro
vided with educational advantages us
their city cousin. Country parents
have no right to keep their children
out of school because woi k is press
ing, though they may imagine they
have. They owe those children uu
education, and the sooner they realize
the fact the better.
