A sleighing party consisting of four
teen couple from this pluco enjoyed
the hospitalities of Charles Sainpsell
and family, Centrevllle, on Monday
evening.
Some ten or twelve young Misses
were treated to u sleigh ride by Hain'l
Hare on Monday evt nlng. They "put
up" at J. C. Scboch's and had "just
too good a tiuiu for anything."
While Gabriel Heaver and wife of
this place were on their way to New
Herlin on Tuesd ly they upset. Mr.
Heaver was thrown out with such
force that he had several ribs broken
and was otherwise badly hurt.

The ground hog has proved Itself at
big k fraud as a prophet as any of the
other. It saw it shawow on the seo
ond, and returned with ' dire proph
esies of six weeks eold. We now have
sunshine, thaw, and blue birds.
Capt Ueorge II. llassenplug, died
at Will Creek, Vs., on Feb. 0. He
was brought to his old home ia Mlf

day. The funeral was conducted by

it into his head one day last week to

One day last week A deer, run by
dogs. Jumped into the garden of

that it surrendered to the men, and
Mr. Hifignmau has it now In his barn
lloor. It is a fine doe, and teems to
like its new home.
A dispatch from Huntingdon says
that work will be commenced on the
Seaboard, Pennsylvania and Wes
tern railroad in the spring. Wlult we
want to know now Is whether they
will take the route that benefits Suy
der county, but the prospects are
very good, and we will spare no paiiiH

facts as they come to the surface.

Spangler to reproduce his very popu
lar lecture on "Cranks" in Middle
burgh on Friday evening, Feb. 12.

Young's Hotel, at present occupied

best of neighbors, while the hotel

The following special dispatch sent
from Lewlnbnrtf Weduesduy evening
by Postofllce Inspector Speese to the
daily papers will fully explain the
various wild rumors that have been
flying over the town for several days
past, and with everbody else, we ex
press ourdeep regret for the young
man, his excellent parents and broth
ers who are of unimpeachable- char
acter : "The Lewisburg mall pouch
for Lock Haven aud Iiarrisburg rail
road postofllce, dispatched the night
of the 1st Inst, was out and thirteen
valuable registered letters extracted
therefrom. Chief Clerk Hughes was
advised of the theft, and telegraphed
Postoflioe Inspector Speese at Erie of
the fact. The Inspector arrived here
this morning and after an investiga
tion arrested Charles A. Catherman,
substitute postal clerk, who confessed
the crime. All letters were burned,
Over ooe hundred dollars in money
was found ou bis persoa.
