Engineering service, at Hog
Island, spent a few hours in the
parental home in this place last

Miss Grace Lodge and Miss
Joan Morton have received ap
pointments to lucrative Govern
ment positions and they are leav
ing to-day for the National Capi
tal to enter upon their duties.
The teaching force of our county
is being depleted by the going
of these young ladies, as they
have both been very successful
instructors.

burg last Friday. B. F. Boor, who
is a son of M. M. Boor, was born
in this county 43 years ago. He
has-recently enlisted in the U. S.
army s rvice, and has been ap
pointed Department Inapt ctor of
1'ield Artillery ammunition.

at their Wichita Branch, to enter
the Officers' Training School at
Camp Taylor, Kentucky. Here-
ports at Camp today.
Evangelist C. H. Loyer is
drawing large crowds nightly at
the big tabernacle at Hancock. A
great open-air meeting will be
held on Main Street of that town
on Saturday evening, after which
a great indoor meeting will be
held in the tabernacle. Sunday
afternoon at 2:30 a patriotic mass
meeting will be held by Evan
gelist Loyer assisted ' by other
able speakers. A great praise
meeting Sunday evening at 7:30.
Special meetings every night next
week at 8 o, clock.

Four generations, in two fami
lies, were present last Sunday in
the home of Mr. and Mrs. William
Henry at Clear Ridge; namely,
MrsClara Miller, her son Warren
Miller of Altoona, and his daugh
ter Ruth; Mrs. J. C. Wright and
little son Clayton, of Altoona;
Mrs. Henry's aunt,- Mrs. Cather
ine Vorcs, her daughter Mrs. C.
J. Sheppard, of Washington, I).
C, and her son Charles and three
chilnren, of McConnellsburg.
Other relatives who were there
were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Brown
and two children Hilda and Wil
lardof Six Mile Run; (Mrs. Brown
and Mrs. Henry are sisters) Mrs.

and Aileen Miller, and Mrs. Ida

They all enjoyed a big dinner,
had a picture taken of the group,
and all returned to their respect
ive homes in the eveningexcept

Serious Accident. '
' An accident that might have
been attended with fatal reeults
happened at the ntone quarry at
PatterHorii R,in on the Lincoln
Highway Ian?, flutwrday. John
W. Doyle, of this place had
charge of the steam drill, and
was preparing to put off a blast,
when the rock.- overhead "let go"
and had it not ben for his quick
action, Mr. Doyle would have
been buriad beneath tons of rock.
As it was, he was caught, and
badly injured. L'ickily no bones
were broken, and he is now rest
ing comfortably at his home in
East Extension.
