Get Rid Or The Bats.
Poison can be used to good
effect. Barium is the cheapest
and most effective, It is taste
less and colorless. Mix it with
meal or flour, or oat meal, using
four parts of one of the above
substances to ,pne part of the
barium carbonate. If a single
application fails then change
tha hnit. Place the bait in tea-
spoonful lota in the rats' run.
Barium carbonate has a cor
rosive effect on the mucus mem
brance of the stomach and the
rats will run for water, which if
thev must eo outside of the
building to secure, means that
they will die outside of the place.
Fumigation of the holes with
carbon bisulphide may help.
Make a ball of cotton and soak it
with carbon bisulphide, place iton
the hole and close the hole tight
with earth or damp rags. The
gas bo generated will soak to the
bottommost portion of the rats'
burrows, killing them.

Prepared Ground Last Fall.
William M. Simpson, of Hunt
ingdon County, this year raised
from six bushels of seed potatoes
of the Early Rose variety, three
hundred bushels of potatoes on a
little less than one acre of ground.
He also planted twenty pounds
of seed of another variety, from
which he raised eight bushels of
potatoes. Mr. Simpson ascribes
a large degree of importance to
the fact that he prepared his
ground last fall.
