Shimer and children Marlin, Harry and Mildred are visiting friends in Waynesboro and Chambersburg this week. Prcf. Admiral Smith ha3 re turned to town after a six-weeks' . vacation, which included a visit to a number of eastern cities and a trip up the Hudson. The Borough schools, of which he is supervising principal, will open next Monday. Mrs. Lucina Forner spent sev eral days last week visiting among relatives in Belfast and Licking Creek townships and " attending Conference Sunday. Mrs. Forner had a post al card Satbrday evening from her son Peter who is in France saying he was well. Prof. Harper P. Barton and wife and sister Maye, of Huston town, motored to McConnells burg one morning last week where they were joined bv Mrs. Watson C. Lynch of the latter place and Miss Freidinger of Shippensburg, and they all went to Tuscarora Heights, where they , spent the day very pleasantly picnicking. Miss Martha G. Kendall, who taught at Webster Mills last win ter, is spending a few days with friends at Beaver Falls, Pa., be fore commencing work as teach er of English and History in the High School at Venice, Pa. Mr. W. J. Brannan and daugh ters M?.ry and Ectaa, of Thomp son township were in town last Saturday. M r. . Brannan with his family came from Webster county, W. Va., four years ago and purchased part of the John R. Paylor farm where he has since resided. Fred Lodge, who had been visiting his mother Mrs. E. M. Lodge North Second Street, ac companied by his sister Miss Grace, went to Cossart, Pa., last week where they spent a few davs visiting in the home of their brother-in-law and sister, MrB. Harvey Clevenger; from Cos3art, they went to Reading and visit ed their brother Charlie. Mr. and Mrs. John Field?, ac companied by the latter's parents Dr. and Mrs. George F. Emerson all of Oklahoma City, Okla., spent a few days in town lapt week. John is one of the boys that never goes back on his "old hum town," and to-day he would be governor of his adopted state if he had not been eounted out instead of being voted out. Rev. and Mrs. C. F. Jacobs and family went to York, Pa., last Thursday to spend a week or two among their former parish ioners in that city. Their dauprh ter Miss Dorothy, who had been spending her summer va cation in the home of her parents, will resume her work as teacher in the public schools in York at the beginning of the ensuing year. Mrs. Roy Daniels and son Marshall, arrived here Friday in Mr. Daniels' Overland touring car from Taylorv111e,,Ill., a dis tance of 750 miles. Mrs. Daniels who encountered very few dif ficulties in making the long .trip displayed remarkable courage in venturing upon such an extended tour, and that she reached home feeling none the worse for the wear, will be joyful news to her many friends Hancock New.
