Owing to the fact that several
states have not fully completed
the report of the registration
made on the fifth of June the
draft has been delayed, but it is
fully expected that it will take
place within a week.
The number registered in this
ounty is 609, all of whom will be
drawn when the draft takes place.
Fulton County's quota in the
first call will be about 73: henc.
the first 75 men drawn will be
taken, provided, there are no ex
emptions in that number. If,
say 5, are excused from service
for cause, than the next num
bers succeeding the 75 will be
taken until 75 men are found
who are acceptable.
One of the causes of exemp
tion is, if the man drafted is the
sole support of his family or other
dependents, he will be excused.
Of course physical disability,
will debar any one from entering.
There are many other causes.
As soon as the draft takes
place, the persons drafted will
be notified of the time to ap
pear before the local board.
The names are drawn much
like a jury-the numbers are
drawn promiscuously, and the
first to be drawn in Fulton County
is just as likely tobeGC9asIl.
After the first quota is made up,
the others will hold themselves
rn readiness to go at the second
call begining at the number
when the first quota leaves ofT.
That ia, if it takes 150 to get the
first 75, the second call will be
gin at No. 150, and. proceed un
til the second quato is made up.

Educators Urge Exemption For The Yo
cational Teachers.
State College, Pa., July 17.
Leading educators in the public
schools of Pennsylvania, attend
ing a war-time conference here,
Thursday passed a resolution urg
ing the government to consider
the advisability of excempting
from the military draft trained
teachers in the vocational schools
who cannot be replaced. There
was no discussion of the draft's
effect on the rank and file of male
teachers generally.
Dr. Nathan C. Schaeffer, State
Superintendent of Public Instruc
tion, who called the two-day ses
sion, told his superintendents
and principals they are facing a
big problem in Pennsylvania ed
ucation with the importation of
Southern negroes to thi3 State.
He referred to one Pennsylvania
railroad official who alone brought
400,000 colored men and their
families here to solve the labor
shortage. Dr. Schaeffer esti
mated that 2.000,000 negroes
have come north within the last
few months. '
