Bread Hamper Hurled Against Train.
Jeannette. Four persons were In
jured on Pennsylvania train 37 west

Ohio Pyle Wiped Out By Fire.
Connollsvllle. The business section
was practically wiped out and eight
residences were alxo destroyed by lire

Somnambulist Killed By Fall.
Allentown. Havmond Ilertzoc. 21
years old, of Mertztown, r.erks county,
died at the Allentown Hospital as the
result or Injuries sustained a wees
aeo, when, walking In his sleep, he
fell from the second story window of
his home, fracturing the skull. Tho
young man crawled from there to the
barn where ho was found the next
day In an unconscious condition.
Brakeman Falls From Car; Killed.
Altoona. When the brake chain
broke, Prakeman John A. Cherrv. aed
twenty-five, of Pellwood, was thrown
off a draft of cars he was taking down
the yard at nellwood and crushed un
der the wheels. Notwithstanding both
lees and his left arm were severed, he
lived for two hours and was conscious
almost to the Inst, giving instructions
about family affairs.
Startling Story Wins Acquittal.
Harrlsburg. A Dauphin county Jury
believed the startling story told by
J. n. Garwood In defending himself
against a charge of larceny as bailee
of funds collected for N. C. Pcckley.
Garwood said he became Intoxicated.
was attacked by thugs, robbed and
carried to a house where he was kept
twelve days without clothes and only
a crust of bread and n glass of water
per day. He was acquitted.
War Veteran Dies By The Roadside.
F.ton. Charles Wiggins, aged
eighty, a Civil War veteran, was found
dead by the roadside about four miles
bark from Raubsvllle. He had been
showing mental derangement of late
nd on Monday disappeared from his
home In Easton and police were look
ing for him. It Is supposed he was
trying to get to Upper Wakefield
Township. Ducks county, where his
brother, Marshall Wiggins, lives.
Painter Grasps Electric Wire; Dies.
Reading. While engaged In paint
ing the steel lattice work of a water
tower at the Textile Machine Works.
Genrce Williams, aged forty-two years,
of rhoenlxville. grasped a live electric
wire and was killed. It was estimated
that 13.000 volts passed through his
body. The accident occurred while
the man was at work 100 feet In the
air and his body fell In a smoking
heap to the ground, almost every bone
broken.
$200 For Killing Two Deer Illegally.
Stroudsburg. Came Warden W. S.
Lash has cleared up the mystery sur
rounding the killing of two deer In
the vicinity of Pocono Iake on th
opening day of the hunting season.
The two men arrested for violation of
the State gsme laws were Thomas Mil
ler, of Easton. and Leroy Christian,
of Pocono Lake, Miller was given a
hearing and found guilty, fined one
hundred dollars and costs of case.
Christian pleaded guilty and paid . the
hundred dollars fine and costs.
State Commerce Chamber Formed.
Harrlsburg. Men from thirty-two
cities In Pennsylvania, representing
flfty-lhree associations and organiza
tions, met here at the Harrlsburg Club,
organized a State Chamber of Com
merce, adopted tentative by-laws and
appointed a ooard of forty directors.
The by-laws provide that the organ
ization be known as the Pennsylvania
State Chamber of Commerce, with per
manent headquarters at Harrlsburg.
The nlm and object of the chamber
will be "the development of all civic.
Industrial, agricultural and commercial
affairs, together with co-operation In
the advancement of plans for the wel
fare and prosperity of every one In the
State.
Postmaster Asks To Be Relieved.
Bethlehem. Postmaster . G. William
niegel asked Congressman H. J. Steele
to bo relieved of his ofTlce. Mr. RIegeVa
term as postmaster really expired last
January, but because of political con
ditions no successor has been appoint
ed to succeed hliu as yet. He has hold
the oflice for twelve years and too
months. Mr. Rlegel says that the Pos
tal Department Is not. furnishing tho
support and facilities for the proper
conduct of tho local office, where the
business Is Increasing rapidly.
