Mr. and Mrs. Riley Hess and
their little daughter Nellie and
son Willard, were pleasant call
ers at the News office last Satur
day morning. Riley has just fin
ished the burning of a nice lime
kiln on his farm.
George F. Mellott, formerly of
the Cove, now owns three good
farms in Franklin county. One
of the secrets of Mr. Mellott's
success i3 that he does not let
anything go to waste about his
farm. In order to work up the
odds and ends in the way of feed
he has sixty-nine steers that are
now about ready for the market,
that will add about sixty-five
hundred dollars to his bank ac
count in a few week3.
Mr. and Mrs. Levi Johnson and
children Cloyd, Ralph and Clar
ence were in town last Saturday
doing some spring shopping.
They live in the Fulton County
Rod and Gun Club house on Side
ling Hill. Among other mem
bers of the club there now are
Dick Frey, of Altoona, and Tom
Patch, of Pittsburgh, who are
having splendid luck swishing
the speckled beauties from their
hiding places in those beautiful
mountain streams.
County Surveyor and Mrs.
vrank P. Plessinger, and Mr.
and Mrs. A. S. Lavton-all of
Whips Cove, motored to McCon
nellsburg last Thursday in Mr.
Layton's Ford, and were all very
pleasant callers at the News of
fice. Mr. Layton was just get
ting possession of the title to the
Locust grove farm and mill prop
erty, which he recently purchas
ed from Henry Sharps. Mr. and
.Mi J. Layton have lived upon the
property as tenants during the
past six years Mrs. Layton be
ing the postmaster at Locust
Grove.
