They camped that night at the Eckert place at the foot of Cove mountain. They left Pittsburgh June 20th, and all was go'ng well with them with the (exception of foot troubles At Chambersburg they had their foot gear overhauled in a repair shop. Prof. W. F. Hughes, of Phila delphia, is spending thi3 week in town, renewing old acquaintan ces, and incidentally conducting a field class in botany. The pro fessor is a native of McConnells burg. and taught his first term of school in Belfast township in 180(5-7. It was the Philip Mor- gret school. While forty-eight years have elapsed since that time, Mr. Hughes has vivid rec ollections of the parents and pu pils of that district that winter, and he had the usual experiences attending a teacher in his "first school." An enormous storage dam is being built at Roxbury, Franklin county, for power purposes of generating electricity. To make the storage area larger, a chan nel was cut from the creek to a field which was surrounded by a concrete wall. We print this item for the occasion it offers us to remind ourselves of how Lick ing Creek is running on to the sea without playing its part in the production of cheap power to light he home3 and turn the grindstones in that thickly popu lated valley. One of the editors of the News had the pleasure of attending the children's services in the Green Hill churches last Sunday. The Methodists held their meeting in the morning, and the Presbyter ians, theirs in the afternoon. Both churches were crowded to to the fullest capacity. Three or four families did not go home for dinner, but camped on the church green and had dinner, picnic style The horses were fed too and fin ished on bluegrass, after which the campers attended services at the Presbyterian church. Both churches were tastefully decora ted with great masses of rhodo dendron, ferns, and other wild flowers and foliage. It would be out of the question for us to pub lish the programs, but we must say they were fine, and must have cost the superintendents, teachers, and workers, much time and patience. The little folks did well, and we are sure that the end for which these days are set apart was accomplished, name ly,' the awakening and retaining of the interest of the rising gen eration in the great work of the Sunday Schools. Nothing adds more to the refinements of home than good music. To have good music you must have a good instrument. There are good bad and indifferent instru ments, and to the unskilled eye they look much alike. The unprincipled dealer is likely to make 'you pay a first-class price for a fourth-class instrument. I have lived in this county since my birth, I am a taxpayer and in a position to make good any business transactions. Buy your piano, organ, or victrola from me and if it is not all right you can come back at me. There are families in every part of this county that have purchased instruments from me. Ask them about me. Perhaps you want to trade your organ for a Piano, or Player.Piano; or your Plain Piano, for a Player. See me. Let's talk it over. L. W.
