Levi Stottlemyer, Wolfsville,
Washington county, Md., grew
from seven acres this year 763
bushels of potatoes, the " most of
which he hauled to Hagerstown,
and for which he received from
60 to 65c. per bushel.

Phoebe Eickard brought suit
against the Huntingdon & Broad
Top Kail road Company for 20,
000 damage for the death of her
husband who was killed in a train
wreck below Iiiddlesburg about
a year ago. She settled with the
Company last week by knocking
off 18,50O of the bill.
Applications for automobile li
cense tags for 1911 are already
being made at the State Highway
Department at a rapid rate, over
1,000 being already listed for the
new year. None will be issued
for some time. Thus far the
department has issued over 23,-
000 of the 1910 license for ma
chines and over half as many to
licensed chauffeurs.
The quicker a cold is gotten rid
of the less the danger from
pueumonia and other serious dis
eases. Mr. B. W. L. Hall, of
Waverly, Va., says: "I firmly be

The Blair county Court at Hoi
ldaysburg, has decided that the
proper time to put a child to bed
is at 7:30 o'clock each night The
decision resulted from the peti
tion of a husband, who does not
live with his wife, to compel her
to permit him to visit her home
each night after his work to see
the child. The court deferred to
the wife's judgement in the mat
ter and directed the father to
make his paternal visits prior to
7:30.

Local Institutes.
The fourth local institute of
Belfast township, was held at
Maple Grove school Friday even
ing, November 25th. The meet
ing was called to order by the
teecher Daisy Strait, who ap
pointed Lester Mellott president.
The following topics were dis
cussed: 1. How do you teach
writing? 2. To what extent
would you teach manners and
morals in school? A number of
songs and recitations were ren
dered by the schools which gave
credit to both teacher and pupils.

Lake, Nelle F. Morton, Blanche
Smith and Daisy Strait Nelle
F. Morton, Secretary.
The fourth local institute of
Dublin township was held at
Chesnuts, Noyember, 25, 1910.
The meeting was called to or
der by the teacher John Wood
cock who appointed L. P. Morton
president. Topics for discussion
1. How much time should be giv
en to special exercises? 2. should
we give pupils extra work to do
during vacations and holidays?
3. How much time do you devote
to the different branches? These
topics were well discussed by the
following teachers: Fred Lodge,
Robert Cromer, Levi P. Morton,
D. K. Cbesnut, John Woodcock,
Myrtle Stevens, Dctte Dishong,
from Dublin, and, Glenn Laidig,
Grant Wink,-Will Ranck, Zanna
Laidig from Taylor. Many reci
