In the Supreme Court in
Brooklyn last week, a woman who
was trying to convince the judge
that she was entitled to a separa
tion from her husband, explain
ed that he sometimes drank a

Humphrey D. Tate, a promi
nent Democrat politician of Bed
ford county, died at his office in
Bedford last Friday morning,
aged about 62 years. Mr. Tate
wasa lawyer, and Went to his
office well as usual While sit
ting m his ohair in pleasant con
versation with some friends, be
fell over and expired in a few
moments. lie was Governor
Patterson's private secretary dur
ng his first term of office, and
was well known all over the State.
He was a prominent Democrat
and usually epresented his coun
ty in Democratic Slate conven
tions. In the last Congressional
election, he was a candidate in
opposition to John M. Reynolds.
Mr. Tate is survived by his wife
and three daughters.
