Metzler, pastor of the Mulberry street M. E. church, Wuliamsport, Pa., was called to this county on account of the serious illness of his father John G. Metzler, of Harrisonville. Rev. D. R. Ellis, the distin guished naval warrior and preach er and the last living survivor of the crew of the famous first iron clad Monitor of Rebellion fame, died at Annville, Pa., last Friday, aged 68 years. Geo. E. Fleming, esq., Editor and Proprietor of the Mercers burg Journal, drove over to this place on Saturday to make in quiry as to the possibility of a good buckwheat crop. Last Friday morning, as Ellis Mcllheunv was coming up the hill at Richmond with his thresh ing outfit, the cylinder head of his traction engine blew out, and the engiuestarted to run back. This broke the tongue off the Sep arator and upset the water Unk, while the engine, from which the engineer jumped, ran to the side and upset down an embankment. Behind the outfit, Harry Mc Curdy and his son, from Fannetts burg, were driving, and the ex plosion and wreck frightened their horse, which started to run off. He upset the wagon, throw ing out Mr. McCurdy and upset ting the wagon on his young son. It was only after hard work that the wagon was finally raised so that the boy, who was severely injured, could be gotten out. The engine was pretty badly wrecked and both Mr. McCurdy and his son are injured, though the latter the more severely. Opinion. How to Avoid Appendicitis. "... 7 Preliminary Meeting. The preliminary meeting of the teachers of Ayr, Uelfust, Brush Creek and Licking Creek townships, was held at Needniore, September 1st. About thirty-three teachers were pres ent The meeting was culled to order by Superintendent Lamberson, and Thomas Truax was appointed chair man The following questions were discussed by the teachers, Prof. Pal mer, and Superintendent Lamberson : li Preliminary Work. 2. Libraries: Their Importance; Methods of estab lishing them, etc. High class works should be procured for the advanced grades. 3. How should a teacher spend his time when not engaged in actual teaching 'i Teachers should take some exercise between four and seven o'clock in the evening. 4. Tho value of a good school to a commun ity and vice versa. Prof. Palmer said that teachers should look out for bad behavior outside ot school. Discip line stands first in a good school. The best of discipline Is reached through good teaching. 5. What should a teacher read t Make a study of poet ry with the pupils. Study and apply psychology while teaching. (.
