Our old friend Philip Snyder,
of Tod. hu been quite poorly for
several days.
Mr. Jobn Rtha, of Vining, la.,

A woman in Indiana adopted a
novel plan to get even ' with a
drunken husband who had long
heaped abuse upon her. Last
week one day when he had re
lapsed into a drunken stupor and
was put to bed she got busy and
sewed up ber spouse in a blanket
so securely that he could not
move, and then applied a horse
whip until he roared for mercy
and made promises to reform
and signed a pledge not to drink
any more.
Last Saturday Mr. Hiram
Clevenger took Mrs. Olevenger,
Mrs. Villa Gehret, Mable Jack
son, Mrs. Mentzer, Mrs. Louisa
Jackson, Thos. Gehret, Mrs. Eve
lyn Jackson, Rush Jackson, Mrs.
Roettger and Bessie Gehret up
to Mrs. Jacob Sharp's, about
two miles north of Knobsville.
Mrs. Sharp bad a fine dinner
prepared which was much en
joyed by the visitors. After din
ner there was some music and
then the party stai ted for home.

John M. Kerlin was in town
last Saturday. While he and
George Glunt were in the woods
cutting logs for Grant Baker on
the last day ol January, he met
with an accident that might have
cost him his life. Thev had just
finished chopping down abig pine
and stepped back to await its fali,
when a large white oak limb that
bad been dislodged by the falling
pine, came down ana struck Mr.

shoulder and back, crushing him
to the graund. Be has not been
able to work since. .The Fates
seem to be cn bis track, for two
J rears ago, while lumbering in Al
en's Valley, a limb fell in much
the same way and broke a bone
in one of his legs, putting him out
of commission for awhile, and a
few days before his last accident,
a dead white oak limb struck bim
a violent blow on tbe bead.

er, Bethel towhshlu's popular con
stable found himself surrounded by a
large number of apparently hungry
people. Fortunately they did not at
tempt to do him any violence, for
the surrounding was at the dinner
table at his home, and the table was
laden with such a variety of appetizing
viands, that the "mob" was too busy
In their attack on the good things to
eat.
Among the guests were people from
Johnstown, Warfordsburg, Needraore,
Pleasant Orove, Dott, and Sideling
Hill, and they were entertained afte
dinner very pleasantly with music,
games, etc., till 2 o'clock when amid
many good wishes and good nights,
the guests departed.

eating among friends at this,
place.
Quite a number of our young
people attended tbe Oyster Sup
per at Maddensville, Saturday
evening. They report a large
crowd and a good time.
Jas. H. Fields, of Fort Little-,
ton, having purchased the Mibu
Anderson farm, will move into
his new home this ween; also, J.
D. Stevens will move Irom here
back to his farm near Fort Little-4
ton. We are triad to see the one
come, and sorry to see the otheri
leave, as they are both good citi
zens.
The Mechanics Band of this
place will give a free concert on
Saturday evening, March 21,
1908, in the Jr. O. U. A. M. Hajl.
The program consists of both vo
cal and instrumental music-
Great preparations have been
made by the band and orchestra
to furnish better music than ever
before, and a continuous concert
will be given from 8 to 11 o'clock.

Tbe sixth educational meeting , of
Brush Creek township, was held at
Oak Orove School, Friday night, Feb.
2d. The meeting was called to order
by the teacher, Albert C. Garland,
when Mr. Simon N. Garland was elect
ed chairman. .
The following questions were well
discussed by tha teachers present 1st.

was well rendered by the school. This
