THE FOURTH. Big Day In McCunncllsbiirx. Weather Fine and Large Crowd Present. Program Carried Out. somcthin" doiv the whole day. The Fourth in McCon lellsourg, wis all right, and those vvho bad the management of the ailair are to ho congratulated. The wenth er man could i.ot hdve pluum-d more wisely. The clouds looked threatening enough in the morn iny; to make many farmers believe that it would be a poor harvest day; aud many of them took the day oil, that would otherwise have staid at home. Toward noon the clouds disappeared, and with the exception of a little shower 11 the afternoon, the weatlvr all -lay was ideal. By eight o'clock the streets were lined with visitors, and by ten, there was a crowd hero such as has not been here since the Centennial. The buildings were copiously decorated with bunting and Hags, and arches were erect ed in several places on Water street, so that the old town pres ented a gala appearance. About ton o'clock the parade, which was composed of the fun niest looking fantastics, indus trial and historical lloats, led by live marshals aud two bauds the McConnellsburg aud the Mercers burg made a display that ivas well wort!) taking a day olf to see. At one o'clock the bands led the lovers of the ball game to Wag ner's field, just to the left of the Forks of the pike, where the Ed eusville team and the MeConnells burg team crossed bats. As the Edeusville peoole had been invit ed to help entertain the crowd that day, our boys were good to them, and Xev tossed them nhe balls, and our fielders were not particular about holding the nail when it dropped into their hands on a lly, and just let their visitors trot around the diamond until to save them from becoming over heated they were sent out into the tield again to get some rest. Of course our boys did not scoi e any points,- didn't want to, you know. At three o'clock the tourna ment took place on the Commons on the northeast of town. This attracted much attention. Nine Sir Knights rode for the honors. The riders were Dr. and Walter Sappington, (.Jam Patterson, and Frank Duil'v, of Webster Mills; and Waiter R. Sloan, Alex Patter son, Mark Dickson, and Dan and Hal Trout, of this place. Frank Duffy won the honor of crowning the "Queen," aud plac eu the coveted wreath on the brrw of his wife; D. F. Trout won second, and crowned Miss Mayo Johnston, first maid of lienor; Dr. Sappington won third and be stowed the honor on his wife:And Waiter Sappington w n the priv ilege of crowning M;ns Jess Dick son third infill of ti 'iior. Dan Trout, Dr. Sappington, and Cain P.itntrson entered for the running race. Mr. Patter-1 son won nnd carried oil' the cash pri.e of live dollars. This ended the formal program until evening, when there was a tine display of lireworks, balloon ascensions, rockets and cannon crackers galore. The band had ei ected tables on the public green west of the Court House, and a festival was held lasting until midnight. The order during the day and evening was as good as one ever sees 0:1 occasions of this kind. There was little diuukenness scon on the streets, and but one arrest was mad", and that was due to the fac t that the man w ould riot listen to the eoin inon sense advice of his friend -, Try a little K'H.. f r )ys ep ia. lifter vo-ir meals.
