A liirthday Surprise.
Tuesday of last week was a ver
tible Spring day, a day favorable
for the gathering of children and
grand children and friends at Mr.
William Uivens'- tenant farmer
for Mr. James Kendall. They
came to surprise his mother, Mrs.
Susan 1 iiveiis, who makes her
home with him, it being her sixty
third birthday anniversary. They
brought with them boxes and bas
kets tilled with those things which
satisfy the inner man. After
greetings had been extended and a
little social conversation indulged
in, one and all sat down to a boun
tiful repast. The Divine blessing
was invoked upon the daily bread,
and the prayer breathed that the
life of the one in whose honor the
guests had assembled might he
spared to see many more anniver
saries of her birth. Mrs. Bivens
received ninny birthday remem
brances. Among tliose present were her
daughters, Minnie, wife of Daniel
Clevenger together with her child
ren; Carrie, wife of Lewis Cleven
ger and her children; Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Truax and son Elmer;
Mrs. Jacob Pott, Mrs. Jack Peck,
Mrs. Annie Graham, Rev. and
Mrs. C. M. Smith and their little
son Lawrence. Mrs. William Ott,
another daughter of Mrs. Bivens,
was detained at home on account
of sickness.
