Mellott, of Licking Creek township, was engaged at work on his father's saw mill, while repan ing something about the saw, which had for the time stopped. The engineer, not knowing that young Meilott was near the saw, started the mill. Unfortunately at the time Mr. Mellott k.ad a hold on the saw, and the index finger of his right hand was caught, cutting it almost off and cuttting into the palm of the hand. Dr. McClain was hastily summoned, and, upon examina tion, decided that the finger would have to be amputated.
