Ad election, tho 1 k& ot which this State has never soon before, is now being' conducted in this city, and will continue for four months. Every day the peoples will cast their ballots and every week they will be counted until the growing interest in the election cuhniuates in tho final announcement of tho winner. The candidates are a number of charming girls, society belles, mill workers, clerks, and others from various classes; and the con test is for the honor of being ((ueen of the Carnival which is to be given wheu the city cele brates its first centennial on May 10, 11 and 12. As queen of the Carnival, the young lady who is elected will give all the prizes of fered in the numerous events which are to be part of the pro gram, and will occupy the seat of honor during the civic, industrial, military, firemen's and fantastic parades, which are to follow one another during the three days of the celebration. This centennial is to surpass auy similar affair evei given in this Stata Wilkes IJarre is tiie industrial center of northeastern Pennsylvania, and the oldest city in the anthracite coalfields, be sides the wealthiest city of its size in the world, and the resi dents, who are proud of it. have determined that the celebration shall be one which will not only be an event of the greatest icri: poi tance to the city, but an afiair in which the entire Stute will take an interest.
