Successful Entertainment.
The Franklin Mills Sunday

N'ew Year's tnght iu Franklin
Mills schoolhouse. Tue prgram
of exercises was arranged with
uuch care, and those "who took
part in the exercises acquitted
themselves with credit. The sing
ing, which is always an important
'actor toward the successor such
in entertainment, was very good,
and the recitations, dialogues,and
addresses were in keeping with
the general theme of the evening,
ind showed careful preparation.
The devotional service was con
lucted by Ira D. Mellott, and the
iddress of welcoms was made by
I. H. H. Lewis. Recitations were
tfiven by Stella Gray, Eugene
Violdon. Estaline Golden, May
Bishop, Stanley Schetrompf, Vi
la Golden, Kexie Hess, Arthur
Arthur, and Earl Golden.
Dialogues were rendered by
Nellie Spade, Beulah Schetrompf,
Blanche Mann, by Harry, Alex,
tnd Arlie Spade, and others. Mr.
Spade added much to the enter
tainment by several nice selec
tions on his graphophone. The
'.xerclses by the primary cIpss
were especially interesting.
The treat was delivered to the
Sunday school by a vertable"San
ta." The school will continue during
the winter at 2 o'clock each Sun
day afternoon.
Only 82 Years Old.
J-
"I am only 82 years old and
dont expect even when I get to be
real old to feel that way as
long as I' can get Electric Bit-ters,-,says
Mrs. E. H. Brunson,
of Dublin, Ga. Surely there's
nothing else keeps the old as
young and makes the weak as
strong as this grand tonic medi
cine. Dyspepsia, torpid liver, in
ilamed kidneys or chronic consti
pation are unknown after taking
Electric Bitters a reasonable

The Management ol Private Theatricals.
"The inborn craving for the
dramatic is satisfied in a mild
way by the amateur as by the
professional. This is why the
home play is continually produc
ed. Such reasons as its educa
tional and philanthropic uses are
merely secondary," . says Norah
Anderson in an article on "The
Management of Private Theatri
cals" in the February New Idea
Woman's Magazine. The writer
gives many helpful suggestions
to smooth away the difficulties
which perplex the amateur man
ager who has been fortunate or
unfortunate enough to discover
diamatic talent among his ac
quaintances. The question of
time is taken up first, "four
weeks, at an average of three
weekly rehearsals being just long
enough. There are dangers in
stretching out the time too long,
the danger , of wearying of the
play itself and the still more in
sidious danger, that of wearying
of one's fellow actors." Ihe
choice of the play should be de
termined by the amount of stage
action, for although it is more
work to rehearse, the play's suc
cess depends on it. How the
novice completes his own "mak?
up," where to purchase costumes
at the least possible expense,
stage carpentering, and the col
lecting of stage properties are all
commented upon. Above all. the
necessity of a stage manager in
the person of some competent
man or woman who will assume
all responsibility and who is able
to conduct the affair in a system
atic, businesslike way, is empha
sized. Other subjects touched
upon in this comprehensive arti
cle are the value of theatrical per
formances in schools, flower plays
ror c hildren, and th- good work
done by permanent private dram
atic societies.
